Hi all
Forgive me if this topic has already been brought up for discussion. I think most are aware of the recently released SW Retro vintage line and there appears to be significant interest in it. The main argument against it comes from collectors who fear it will take hasbro's focus away from the modern vintage line (TVC) . I personally love the retro line and think it can coexist with TVC. I was thinking that hasbro could do the same with GI Joe, and reissue vintage o-ring joes on retro cardbacks as well as re-release some vehicles using retro style packaging. How many of you would be interested in such a line? Would you be worried that support for a retro line could interfere with a return of ME figures? I would love a re-release of the carded 1982 series straight arms. 1983 swivel would be fine, too. ...and count me as a fan of weathered card art; I love it! The SDCC Sears missile box is perfect.

Part of the appeal of the ME line back in '07 was the vintage card art. Many collectors like myself wanted it to be on vehicle packaging as well. Still more wanted a coffee table book of art or something. Hell yes, I'd be down for vintage style O-ring figures on old card art.

I literally found this thread and became a registered member of HISS Tank just so I could discuss this very subject with fellow G.I. Joe fans who have a clue. ;-)
I couldn't agree more about Hasbro releasing exact replicas of the 1980s ARAH toy line using the original molds and, wherever necessary, recreating lost or damaged molds. If Hasbro can do it for Star Wars, there's no reason why they couldn't do the same for G.I. Joe, not to mention Transformers G1. (Heck, I would also LOVE to see this happen for He-Man, M.A.S.K., ThunderCats, BraveStarr, Battle Beasts, etc., but I digress.) I am almost 39 years of age, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy the whole darn collection, particularly the 1983–1987 waves, IF (and only if) the toys were identical to the originals that we children of the '70s and '80s grew up with and loved, and which made most of us fans of G.I. Joe in the first place. Having said that, the prices would HAVE to be reasonable. (When I saw an Optimus Prime reissue at Wal-Mart earlier this year priced at a whopping $50, I nearly had a stroke. That is "legal theft," folks, and all it does is take advantage of toy collectors. Disgusting.) I was really hoping Hasbro would do this for the 35th anniversary of the ARAH toy line in 2017, but I'm still waiting, sadly. The 25th anniversary figures were completely different toys altogether. (The multiple points of articulation, especially the rotating wrists and ankles, were complete overkill IMO. Plus, those figures were at least 1 inch taller than the great 3 3/4" Joes.) Yes, I appreciate the effort they put into recreating the original packaging and wonderful vintage artwork, but what good is any of that when the toys themselves are so vastly different from the classics? Let's all keep this thread updated with whatever news any of us can find on the possibility of a G.I. Joe "Retro Collection," okay? Thanks! Last edited by NobodyBeatGIJoe; 09-04-2019 at 01:12 AM.. |

I'm not for the retro thing at all. I don't see the point. just collect the vintage ones that already exist, why re-do the same exact thing? plus I think it takes away excitement/momentum/and value from the old vintage ones. they already put that stuff out years ago and it already exists. I live in 2019 and I love the updated versions with better articulation and detail and I don't believe in moving backwards. But hey, this is just my opinion.

I’m not pointing this at your comments germ, just responding to the topic in general. Imagine, getting a brand new, exact match, 1983 cobra commander with nice blue color. Or cobra troopers for 10 dollars.
