Oh the irony...
But in all seriousness, I prefer the old style figures. Yes, it probably is nostalgia. I have lost all interest in the modern style.

Hi all
Forgive me if this topic has already been brought up for discussion. I think most are aware of the recently released SW Retro vintage line and there appears to be significant interest in it. The main argument against it comes from collectors who fear it will take hasbro's focus away from the modern vintage line (TVC) . I personally love the retro line and think it can coexist with TVC. I was thinking that hasbro could do the same with GI Joe, and reissue vintage o-ring joes on retro cardbacks as well as re-release some vehicles using retro style packaging. How many of you would be interested in such a line? Would you be worried that support for a retro line could interfere with a return of ME figures? I agree that the lines can co exist and as a 4” Star Wars collector look forward to Following both lines. I’d only request that , like the Star Wars vintage line, no changes be made to any of the figures like we have seen in past “reissues.” Changes to Gentle Giant’s Bespin Han is what kicked me out of collecting the Jumbo line. If it’s not legit vintage you loose the nostalgia. My other requests would be-, Make them more readily available. I have yet to acquire any of the Star Wars retro figures save Tarkin. Keep the waves of figures exact to the vintage releases. Don’t do what the 25th line did and run through all the popular figures early on. 82, then 83, etc. Please no weathering on the card art. I’m not a fan and doubt anyone is. Also please include the gear listed down the right side of the of the bubble. I used to love reading the proper name for the weapons on the card before opening them. Please do the vehicles. I’m up in the air about drivers being sold with or separately. If sold separately please do the drivers on a card back of cropped out box art. Don’t try to create new card art. I did appreciate the fixes on the 25th vehicles. Keep the 25th upgrades. Please do a WHALE in wave 3. And crowd fund a FLAGG Haslab style. Do weapons packs accordingly. As long as sales warrant the line continue please at least do 82-86. Do them right, make them readily available and I’ll buy them all in triplicate. I’d wager most of us will. Slainte!

Do you think Hasbro got rid of all the o-ring molds? IIRC, they were still selling o-ring joes as late as the mid-2000s (e.g., those TRUS exclusive 6 figure packs). I think a retro line would only be successful if they released figures that were as close as possible to the vintage figures (much like they have done with the SW Retro line).
Like many of you, I would buy the hell out of a Joe Retro line. I wonder if such an idea is on their radar. I know we've had discussions on the board about the current lack of support for a Joe toyline due to our fanbase being relatively small, especially when compared to the overall Star Wars fanbase. However, I have to think that the customer base for the SW Retro line is comparable in size to and shares significant overlap with a potential customer base for a Joe retro line. The SW Retro line is specifically drawing upon the nostalgic factor with those adult fans who grew up collecting those figures. I suspect that young(er) SW fans of today would have no interest in the Retro line. So, if Hasbro is willing to invest money and resources into a SW line that appears to be targeting a somewhat limited marketing demographic, might there not be a financial justification for creating a Retro line for us Joe fans?

When the 25th line hit, that's what I was hoping for. I don't really care about updated figures since I'm MOC and mostly interested in the card art and presentation, although I've bought some Pursuit of Cobra stuff because of awesome figures and nice artwork.
I figured the Valor vs Venom multi-packs and 90's TRU lines would be the closest I'd get to affordable "vintage" figures, but then I finally finished college and was able to start buying some vintage carded figures (well, a lot of re-cards as well). So, yeah, even though I'm only buying the Stormtrooper from the Retro line, if they did the same for G.I. Joe, I'd probably get all the Cobras (and Snake Eyes and Jinx) from 1982 on up to about 1988, then more selective after that. |

I generally hate retro lines, but I'd be into this. I think it'd be cool to do ME only characters in retro style, as someone mentioned, like Mattel does with WWE

Count me in for buying whatever they make as long as it is like the retro style Star Wars figures. Or, I wish they would farm retro o-ring (or close approximation that fits with the o-ring figures) Joes out to someone else to make, like Super 7 is doing with their MOTU retro line.

I’d love to see that classic o-ring style, particularly with improved color choices for certain figures. But especially if we got new releases of older vehicles that addresses the issue of certain weak failures of design or general fragility of age. I’m collecting vintage currently, but I would love a new version of the Killer WHALE.

I'd cash in my 401K for a crowdfunded "Silent Castle" that comes with an exclusive Storm Shadow and red ninja, maybe even throw in a FANG Glider to re-enact issue #21. I remember that fan-made one I saw the box art of years ago, just beautiful.
