I went through my 2 bins of Joe figures just to do an assessment of my last year and a half of binging on the hobby. When I got back into the o-ring joes in 2017 my initial aim was just to purchase original mold 3.75 o-ring Joes from the RAHC, VvV, Spy Troops lines. That obviously did not go as planned
I lined up most of my 00-05 era o-ring joes and have to say that I really do love that era. Sure it was mostly repaints of old molds but I feel the execution was almost back on par with the 82-94 run. The color schemes all reflected real life military colors/camouflage even more so than the pre Battle Corps era. It just seems to be a forgotten/overlooked and underappreciated era and I was just wondering what others who do or do not like this era think. Last edited by HitandRun; 06-27-2022 at 10:32 PM.. |

I think that era 00-05 had some great figures but they didnt have to many cobras. thats the only thing that era was lacking. but other than that I liked the color schemes.

From a strictly figure standpoint, they were mostly reused molds but a lot of the paint schemes were great. Some of the paint, especially flesh tones were really bad. The big turnoff for me at the time they were released were the substituted names and lack of filecard continuity with the original ARAH line. In hindsight though there were a lot of great figures I kick myself for passing by back then. I guess that makes my vote overlooked.

While I like the classic oring repaints. I could never get behind the any of that new sculpt crap Hasbro was putting early to mid 2000s.

the only 21C Joe figures I've got are Action Man, Dragonsky v2 and 2 of the Red Ninja-Viper v1. I would like a pair of the V2 Red Ninja-Viper as well...
The o-ring repaints are okay, but most of my collection I bought as an adult collector was stuff I a. couldn't get in Britain or b. missed out on as a kid. I generally don't give a stuff about the post 1994 era. The only post '94 stuff I've got is Volga, Gorky v1 and Dragonsky, the aforementioned Action Man and Ninja-Vipers because I liked those particular figures and wanted to have them. |

I hardly own any of them, but the ones I do I really like. It definitely seems like an incredibly overlooked era that had some great figures and concepts.

That set and concept is cool but I don't include those figs (I have a decent number of the 97-98 figures myself) with the 2000-2005 releases. The 97-98 figures IMO were very good concepts but much more flawed in terms of quality and exectuion (I do think Hasbro did a great job with the vehicles during that time though). Quote:

The variety of cobras was not as great but they did produce the Night Watch, Crimson Guard, Python Patrol, Imperial Procession, Viper Pit, Shadow Guard, Urban Strike Team, Infantry Forces, Ninja Strike 5 packs. I would of preferred more cobras released in the two pack format as well though. |

The era had some great repaints. I love having an arctic ops version of Big Ben, and a jungle ops version of Firefly and Dial Tone for example. Also, if you have both the same mold and the same accessories as your 82-94 counterpart, then in my joeverse you are the same character; there is no double blast, only another version of Roadblock. There is no Sidetrack, only another version of Ambush.
