As I stare at my plastic crack addiction, I have pondered when or if, I will feel that my collection is complete. I have been restoring and reselling ARAH vehicles over the past year, but not really adding to my personal collection. I add a vehicle here and there if it’s one that I feel “completes” or rounds out my collection, but I’m not actively trying to find each and every vehicle in the 82-94 lines. I realize that completion is characterized in many different ways. For some, it’s having all of the vehicles from their childhood. For others, it’s certain years; ie) 82-87. I guess for me it’s having a well rounded collection that exhibits the best of line (or at least IMO), and adding what I feel better meets that expectation. Do vehicles have to be complete to meet your criteria or can parts be missing as long as you have the vehicle? Are there years that you simply will not collect in the ARAH years? Do modern era retools count if they replace the vintage? Are you down to hard to find exclusives and hesitant to pull the trigger due to price point? Will you ever feel that you have amassed all that you ever will amass and feel complete? All questions I ask myself and I wonder how other collectors feel? Your thoughts....

I am looking forward to when i can display my collection.
My collection is centered around Modern Era Joes. To me a complete collection is a definitive version of each character made in the modern era, a strong troop built army, customs of 82-93 figures that have not been made in modern era, and the iconic vehicles from the 82-94 line. I currently have a small list of holes that i feel keep it from being complete. I am missing 12 (6 Battle Force con set Joes, Freefall, Joe Colton, Claymore, Hardball, Sgt Smasher, and Night Fox). The subteams are a nice to have, but i wouldnt feel my collection is incomplete without them. |

I've long since come to the realization that there's a point--an arbitrary point--where I start feeling the weight of any collection of things. Where it ceases to be fun and turns into a burden. Where it stops being a collection and becomes just stuff. Seems like for many collectors of anything, it becomes more about acquisition than owning, and one can find themselves buying/adding without appreciating what you already have. I've learned, and continue to learn, to take stock of what I already have before adding to it. The long-term fun for me is keeping it light and simple. Acquisition itself is more of a temporary high. I prefer to enjoy what I have, while I have it. If I have too much, that becomes difficult. I can't take it with me anyway, and I hate clutter, so I'm finding a way to evaluate and own only what I really want and nothing more than that. If I kinda want, I don't get in the first place or I sell it off/donate.

I'm primarily modern era as well but I've picked up a few 'must have' vintage ARAH figures. I will always be tempted to pick up a few more but I generally don't need them. My modern era collection won't be "complete" until I get a few customs done of figures the Club and Hasbro didn't get to that I really want as replacements for ARAH originals. But overall, I'd say it's fairly close to complete. The next challenge will be arranging and displaying it all.

Complete means I own everything.
Every figure. Your figures. His figures. Everyone else's figures. All of the Star Wars figures. All of the G.I. Joe figures. All of the Boss Fight and Articulated Icons and Mythic Legions and He-Man and Transformer and Indiana Jones figures. All of them. When I am the only person in the world who owns action figures, that is complete. |

I'm still in the process of figuring out what complete means for me. The fact that Star wars is still pumping out new movies and a ton of new figures makes it impossible to truly be complete, I suppose. I dunno, collecting has become sort of like a race or a game that is so fun you hope it doesn't end.

Complete means when Wedge gets ALL of the figures then I sneak in one night and lift em.
Seriously though, I just make a list of what I want and what will fit in my 'verse and that's what I go for. My collection spans many lines and I'm not a completest in any.

Complete means 2 different things for me. I’m only collecting figures, so for my Cobras it means one of every released figure. For my Joes, it means one figure of each modern era character.
I have a small, 25th anniversary, modern era OG13 collection that will be “complete”, once I add tan Clutch to it. I have a small movie verse collection that has a figure of all the actor Joes, such as: Bruce Willis Dennis Quaid RZA Dwain Johnson Channing Tatum ETC... That is complete for now! I only have one subteam & that is Ninja Force! It will be complete, once I get Bushido & Banzai! The rest of my Joe characters are displayed together. There are several gaps, but I will continue to hunt them down! |

Having as many ARAH styled modern figures as possible including customs, and every retail vehicle made between 82-94, including customs.
