I have been buying lots on ebay lately and some of them have contained figures from this era - I have been cleaning them up and giving them to my son but it has also been fun to see some of these figures up close again. I collected this era heavily when it came out - I was 20-23 or so and every summer when I was home from college I would go on Joe Hunts to buy GI Joes that were released over the year - it was a fun time and I remember it fondly.
With the Retro Line information finally being put out there I feel like I know what direction I can move with what I want to collect. I know it is not the most popular era of GI Joe - a mix of t-crotches, elongated legs, over-sized arms, moon boots, over-sized holsters, more cartoonish designs etc. are all reasons why that era of Joe was not very popular. I do think there are some really good figures mixed in there though and I figured I would see what others thought about great figures from that line that can be seamlessly incorporated into their vintage Joe-Verse. Here are mine: GI Joe: Hard Drive Hi Tech Recondo (both versions are awesome) Barrel Roll Shipwreck - either the Pirahna attack boat version or green camo (v9) Snake-Eyes v23 - the best Snake Eyes of the line and criminally underrated overall Cross Hair - any version of him is great General Abernathy v2 Slipstream Ace Roll-Bar - both versions Sgt Bazooka Depth Charge Gung Ho v16 Duke v20 Duke v19 - the Desert Humvee Driver Frostbite - any of the non-crotch ones Chief Torpedo Footloose - DTC Major Barrage - DTC Mutt - DTC Grand Slam - DTC Low Light - DTC Med-Alert - DTC Salvo - DTC Cobra: Electric Eel Cobra Coils Snow Wolf Iron Grenadier - v4 - the one with the cool camo Neo-Viper - any non t crotch version or the yellow one Cobra Bat - honestly I love the BATS from this era - every release is great Destro - v11 - probably my favorite Destro Firefly Croc Master Viper - PP, red and blue - all great figures Sand Scorpion Tele-viper Torch Pit Viper Crimson Guard - DTC Range Viper - DTC Snow Serpent - DTC SAW Viper - DTC Monkey Wrench - DTC Cobra Trooper - DTC Interrogator |

Nice list good sir! - I guess we are the only two that give a shit about the line lol. I still have those cobra infantry figs for you too! Just got back from vacation though.
I didn't even realize they made DTC figs after 2006. Copperhead, Night Viper, Airtight, Falcon, Cobra Officer and Outlook are great looking figs. That Sgt. Stalker v2 is pretty cool looking too. NF Grunt was another of my favs I forgot about. I had Scalpel - just never appealed to me for whatever reason though. I am definitely going to be reacquiring some of these figs though - I can probably get alot of them for the cost of acquiring the retro line releases that are coming out soon. |

Nevermind - it looks like even VvV/Spy Troops era stuff has inflated prices lol.

They're still dirt cheap bud, just wait for auctions over BINs. My pick-ups over the past 2 months have averaged 1-4 bucks ea., the exception being a MOC DTC Falcon at 8ish shipped. I'll hit you up when I score doubles, if I'd known two weeks ago I'd have had some BATs for you.

I also still how rare and costly the Quickstrike is lol. I have wanted that vehicle for a long time but could never shell out the money it costs. That will probably change lol. |

Typically I'm opportunistic with that era, since I'm more interested in ARAH and ME, though I actually never search any specific figures out from any era.
Since I buy for all three eras of 1/18 Joe, I have both "GIJoe-BIN-Newly listed" and GIJoe-Auction-ending soonest" bookmarked, and when I have down time, I'll check in on both. With BIN, I'll use an auto refresher extension to swoop good deals as they list. One con is that I end up sifting through a ton of stuff I'm not interested in, a lot of 12", figures I have, overpriced stuff, etc. Another is that this method can make getting a combined shipping rate tricky. On the other end, I've picked up nearly 300 figures since March (I'm WAY overdue in the "hauls" threads), all well below the current rate- my last good scores were 4 POC Troopers, all at 13ish each, and a MOC RET Joe Trooper at $9 shipped. With auction, I'll just scan the next 12 or so hours worth of listings, since there are less of them. If it's something I want, I'll manually snipe if I have time, or use a sniper program if I'll be asleep or at work. Usually with NS, I'll see a bunch ending from one seller, then bid a few bucks on all they have to take advantage of combined shipping. They're cheap enough that I usually just skim off the few I want and give the rest away.

I recently picked up a few of these more recent figures on cards. Many were either opened or the cards cracked and opened. 98% complete. I got them in a large lot and have no interest in them. I'd be willing to sell outright or trade for 3.75" arah parts or figures. (I'd prefer to do 1 single transaction)
I currently have on card: 2000 CSE- Cobra commander and chameleon (package open) 2000 CSE- snake eyes and storm shadow (sealed) 2001 Joe vs. Cobra- duke and cobra commander (looks like destro)- package open 2002 Joe vs. Cobra- scarlet and zartan (sound attack) (sealed) Joe vs Cobra- scarlett and storm shadow (sound attack) open 2003 Spytroops- lady jaye and Iron grenadier (Iron grenadier missing) Comic still in package 2003 Spytroops- grunt and destro (open) 2003 Spytroops- Snake eyes (open, still has cd rom) 2003 Spytroops- Duke (open, still has cd rom) 2003 Spytroops- firefly (sealed) 2003 Spytroops- Recondo (sealed) 2003 Spytroops- Shipwreck (open, still has cd rom) I think I also have quite a few VVV figures loose (probably missing weapons) floating around as well.

If you are willing to split up that lot I'd be willing to make a deal for 2003 Spytroops Duke, Recondo and Firefly.
Also, if you have any of the figs I listed above floating around let me know. |
