I'm not a completest in any sense. All I want...is what I want. LOL. In terms of individual figures, I consider them complete if they have their iconic accessories. Shipwreck, for example, is complete in my universe because he has Polly (I couldn't care less about those silver star things). Countdown is complete with his helmet and backpack. Etc...Same goes with vehicles, if you look at a vehicle and it's obviously missing something, then that's no good. But if all it's missing is a rear hose, or and unnoticeable rear/side engine cover, then so what? (however, if we're talking about calling something complete as an ebay sale, that's a different subject of course).

Complete means it has everything that it was originally packaged with. I don't care to have spare missiles if there are no storage for them. So I consider a toy complete even if missing some missiles. Most of my modern figures aren't complete with what they came with because many are holding their vintage ARAH weapons.

For me, if the figure comes with everything he can carry, I'm happy. ie. if he's got a holster, then he needs the pistol for the holster. I would prefer to have everything, but would not shy away from something if it was a good deal because it was missing a few accessories.
I just got a Blades (Joecon one) a few years back but he was missing his stand. I don't use the stand anyways, so I was ok with paying less than what he normally goes for when he has the stand.

I want to be one of those evil completists! "Collect them all!" as the box used to say. Comic Books, Marvel Legends, DC collect and connect figures, Star Wars Black series and of course G.I. Joe. House looks like a toy store exploded, bless my wife for putting up with it.
I realize it's almost impossible nowadays to be a completist with all of the exclusives and variants from all the different stores and conventions, so I resist as much as I can. Currently trying to get a complete with all accessories collection of Joe vehicles and figures from 82-90. Probably about 90% there with the figures and about 70% with the vehicles. I'm also trying to restore the stuff from childhood, which is what I'm finding most satisfying about the hobby these days. |

I agree with you, no green shirts, but what i have done is built a Steel Brigade army. In my Joe Mythos, Steel Brigade members can graduate to the Joe Team, it's like the minor leagues for Joes. All Steel Brigade members are incredibly capable special operators, but they have not yet earned the honor to be a Joe. In the event of a global attack, they would be called in to assist Joes, and aid in auxillary support during special ops. I have around 50 Steel Brigade solidiers right now.
Steel Brigade isn’t the minor leagues. It’s what regular Joes strive to acheive. The Steel Brigade is the best of the best (except for when they gave Duke a helmet with that Anti-Venom set. They obviously thought they were making Hawk and screwed up somewhere along the line). Anyway, complete is a moving target. None of us will ever be satisfied. That is just the nature of the beast. We’re addicts. There will always be one more thing to buy. I’ve actually been giving this some thought lately, as I got bored this summer and decided to venture back into Transformers. At first, I told myself it was just the Dinobots. Then, just them and the DJD. Well, just the Dinobots, the DJD, and the Wreckers. I’m sure it will be something else once I meet those goals. The same thing happened with Marvel Universe. I said that I wasn't going to be a completist. Then, I realized that I had I had all of then except Firestar. Of course, I went back to buy her. I am inevitably going to buy that stupid Deadpool pack on Friday, not because I want it, but because I have everything else. We have a sickness, or rather an addiction. It will never end. The best That we can hope for is that it shifts to something else. |

True. I like to think I manage my sickness well. I mean, it's mostly out of sight, is a low priority, often takes a backseat to other low priority interests & I've walked away from plenty of stuff that would be cool to have, but wasn't a need-to-have...and then I go and buy an Assassin's Creed Evie Frye just because it looked cool and was a good price. I'm not a gamer, I don't even really know who Evie Frye is & I couldn't give less of shit about the game itself, so this figure is definitely not a need-to-have. And yet there she stands on my desk, fresh out of her bubble, looking for all the world like the cheap figure she is. Yeah, I manage it well.

I started re-collecting Joes in 2012, with the intention of picking up about 10 of my childhood favorites, and a few I wanted in high school but never got. Of course, it spiraled out of control about 3 years later, and I was all over the place.
So, I took a step back, looked at everything, realized I didn't get back into it for vehicles or playsets, and only wanted a handful of newer stuff like POC and Valor vs Venom. So, I sold off about 50 percent of all my stuff (Joes, Star Wars, Marvel, DC, some statues and mini-busts and some NECA Alien / Predator things) to get back to basics. A lot more room in the man-cave now, made about 1k in the process, and it looks cleaner. I hated the idea of buying new things on Ebay, opening the box, taking the new item and putting it right into storage in a plastic bin in the garage or attic. If I can't openly display it, or fit it on the shelves in my room, then I pass. After all, when I secretly bought Storm Shadow version 2 in high school, I didn't know what was going on with the vehicles, and still don't know a lot about the vehicles and drivers past 1986. |

Now that's a healthy attitude towards collecting. I wish i could say the same, but i have most of my stuff in boxes due to limited display space. At least, i change up my cabinet display once in a while.
