Glancing over Yojoe, it looks like I had pretty much every figure from 82 to 85, with the exception of Lady Jaye and Breaker. Then with 86 it gets sporadic, once I got into Middle School.
Looking at the vehicles, pretty similar: 82 to 84, had just about everything except those two foam gliders (neighbor had them, they were pretty cool) and the Vamp 2. Once 1985 hit I still was going strong with figures but didn't have the Hydrofoil (wanted it), AWE, Mauler, Bridge Layer (knew a kid), the Battle Platform, the Bomb Disposal or the Aircraft Carrier. No vehicles from 1986. In fact, no vehicles until the late 2000's, I think. I think I had the Vypra / Jeep and that Night Landing set from TRU back in the day, but sold them off. Edit: I actually almost got the Serpentor Chariot. I was holding him in my hands at Mervyn's (the Mervyn's at my local mall was awesome and got Joe toys before anyone else), but they were closing so I had to put him back and head to meet the parents by the theater. Never got him. I should make one of those sad memes like the "one day you and your friends went outside to play together for the last time, and none of you knew it" lol... For me it was kind of the end of O-ring in 2006-2007. I had recent ties with the local Joe collectors in Chicago and really wasn't into rebooting my collection. I did buy some of the first 25th figures that came out and the articulation wowed me, but they weren't ideal versions by any stretch, and mixed poorly with what I had.
By 1994 I was already going to toy shows and looking for older figures I had missed, so the line ending wasn't really something I was aware of until a few years later when Sgt Savage showed up and the 3.75" stuff was finally cleared out completely. It didn't really change my collecting habits at that point. I think my "last Joe" was maybe Star Brigade BAAT, or Headhunter Stormtrooper, but since I'm an opener it wasn't a "last" in any meaningful way. |

I was living in Singapore in 1996 (dad was transferred) and in the TRU there I found a huge wall of 90s Joes, everything from 1990 Heavy Duty to 1992 Roadblock, Cobra Commander, Ninja Scarlett etc. With my dad's help I filled up a cart full of figures. They were all on sale. I still have a bunch of these carded figures.
Those were my last Joes until 2009, though I probably hadn't played with Joes since 1992.

I just realized my last figure will likely be a retro-ring figure. If they never fulfill my Cobra troop set or I decide to cancel my o-ring/Transformers x-over preorders from Amazon, my last figure be will either the o-ring Stormy or Snake Eyes.

If this is the end of 3 inch Joes, then I'll still buy Classified but my last figure will probably be either a vintage TARGAT or Iron Grenadier, or a Collector's Club Dragonsky or Tiger Force Jinx. Those are still on my "to get" list for carded figures.
But, I hope this isn't the end! Without vehicles & playsets, there's really no reason to keep 3 inch figures around. Obviously a 6 inch figure can have better detail and paint, but Joe has always relied heavily on vehicles. |

My last figure was Countdown. I can't say why because I'd stopped playing with Joes by the time the 1986 toy line came out. The usual mix of girls and sports factored into my loss of interest. My best friend still got stuff by Christmas of '87 because his mom was a toy collector and she'd still buy Joes for him even if he didn't play with them. His stuff was in pristine condition so we mostly played with my Joe stuff. He got the Defiant that Christmas (He'd actually turned down getting the USS Flagg in 1985!). That may have explained my Countdown purchase for some reason.
His mom passed away with cancer our junior year of high school (1990) so his toy days were over. His dad remarried and moved while he was in college so his grandma had all his stuff in her basement until she needed the space. His parents had also bought him any comic book he wanted to encourage his reading so he had a bunch of X-Men back issues that I couldn't afford in 80's. He offered all of his stuff to me in '96 when his grandma asked him to do something with it. I took his X-Men and Avengers comics but his toy collection was donated to our church yard sale for the scholarship in his mom's name. All these years later, we both lament about him having to unload all his Joes, Star Wars, MOTU, and other toys. His son would have had a treasure chest! |

Close, I was born in 1973. One of my other things was that I was a huge X-Men fan so a lot of my money was being spent in back issues. I basically traded G.I. Joe for comic books, ironic because G.I. Joe was the comic that turned me into a collector.
