OK, another toy from the line I want to ask you all your opinions about.
I loved many of the Cobra vehicles and weapons. Being the more futuristic enemy they had items that might not have been the MOST realistic, but many of their cooler pieces seemed at least somewhat feasible. Of these, I certainly loved the ASP. But thinking about it, let's talk about the pod movement. What purpose do you guys think it served for the pod to elevate as it did. It would seem to make a bigger target of the man in the cockpit and serve no real use in battle, as the HUD would provide the needed visual info for battle. I simply had the elevated position be the un-occupied setting for this cannon. The trooper would step up into it and then all occupied activities would be carried out in the flat position. How did you use this function?

The only explanation I could think of is to fire at a lower target from higher ground. Otherwise it's a pretty cool feature.

Precisely the same as you described for me. I always thought that this was the intended use for this toy.

I assumed it was for operator access. I think the cartoon may have had it firing in that pod-up position.
I liked the look of the ASP, but even for vintage figures the operator seat was too cramped and awkward. |

I believe it was for gunner access, getting in and getting out. The back of the box mentions it.

I remember on the sunbow cartoon they depicted the asp on top of a cliff in the elevated position, firing on Joes down below. It allowed Cobra to be able to aim over the edge of the cliff.

thanks for the box credits guys. I knew there was a reason I was doing that back then. Although the elevated downward fire makes sense.
