Hey guys
Looking for some ideas or advice about what to do with bent antennas. I am going to rebuild a Stun (antennas are both broken so I have repos ordered) and an AWE Striker. The AWE Striker's antennas are bent from years of sitting in a box. There is some stress too on the bases. Anyone have any success in straightening out the antennas on these toys? What method would you suggest? Should I just live with them bent? You can see in the pic they don't look awful bent the way they are bent. Last edited by Picmover; 03-07-2017 at 04:37 PM.. |

Heat them up and straighten then into the freezer, works a little bit...
This stuff is old, we're all just going to have to accept they aren't going to be mint. Or you can replace with the 25th versions. The ones you have look about as nice as you're going to get for vintage. The one I have is much worse.

I have been on sort of an AWE focus collecting kick recently. And I am with you on wanting the Antennae to be straight. That's why I take all of mine off when I pack them away, keep them in a little plastic bag. Also its to the point where I don't even put them back on when playing of the boys are gonna be involved. I only ever even put them on when I am playing alone. Heating and cooling can work to straighten them. Maybe for a jig you could take apart an old ink pen and run the warm whips through the hollow tube of the pen after you heat it up so it cools straight constrained by the shape of the pen housing. I actually prefer the whips to lean just a bit the way a real ones does when you drive, you may not can get that effect if you get the perfectly straight with some sort of jig.

Dip 'em in boiling water.
Before attaching them, use a dab of baby/mineral oil so they can pull out easy. |
