I don't believe there is any full proof way to prevent yellowing/discoloration. Obviously direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes are not ideal, but all plastic is in a constant state of decay. It may take 2 or 3 years, or it may take 40 or 50 years - eventually that plastic is going to change color or become brittle or "melt" at room temperature. The chemical compounds are eventually going to break down in some way.
