Here's my Flagg. I bought it and 75% of my collection 6-7 years ago from an acquaintance who needed to clear out his basement before he and his wife downsized. It's missing the arrestors and cable, the mic (though I do have once piece of it), the elevator support, and the fantail deck rail. Never dreamed I'd own one of these. I just go into my office and smile at it more often than I'd like to admit.

I love seeing all these Flaggs, and I hope to join the group someday.

I got my Flagg when my mom promised me one if I raised my grades from D's & F's to straight A's. As the story goes my mom went to dad 2 semesters later and frantically asked what they were going to do?! Thank goodness for lay-away. I built a stand for my carrier and will get some picks of it on here soon

hey gang, new member to the club here. i have always admireded from a far till recently.
thanks to a good friend that has now changed and i am in the flagg club now... ![]() but before i go crazy with the restoration and lower deck build. i had a couple of questions if anyone is still around that might be able to answer if they can. the super structure on the flagg has a nice yellow and butterscotch finish on it. so obviously i would like to change that. when it comes to bleaching the flagg i have read the post that have been made over the years. i understand and have bleached stuff in the past. but my question to the guys who walked that road with your flagg is... how does/did the whitening hold up after all this time has past? i am sure it turned back in some form or fashion. but how bad is the actual reversion and have any of yall gone in for a second dip and are you just living with it? i come across lots of stories but not any real definative answers on the state of a bleached flagg many years later. so if anyone has done this and is still around. did your flagg turn back, were there any real issues with brittleness because of the acids in the bleach solution? or is that just an old wives tail. any info would be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance. **also, sorry for the double post. i don't see an edit or delete option on my end** maybe a mod could clear that out -thanks- |

Yes, it will re-yellow very quickly. I have deyellowed my Flagg superstructure and it?s yellow again a year later. I?ve been wondering if I could clear coat it if that would help. It?s oxygen that interacts with the bromine so if it?s coated that might prevent yellowing but I?ve never tested it.

After bleaching be sure to keep it out of sunlight. If the room isn't windowless, put UV blocking film on the windows.

Air quality, large temperature swings, and high humidity also affect this problem.
If you keep your Flagg in a garage, don't bother restoring it. It's not a proper temperature controlled environment, and neither are unfinished basements. These are the exact environments that contribute to yellowing. Storing it with unsealed / vented chemicals or other materials like fertilizer also contribute to the problem.
