No, it'll never be like the 80's in the sense of having entire aisles (or half-aisles) devoted solely to G.I. Joe. The toy business just doesn't work that way anymore.
But it can be like the 80's in the sense of G.I. Joe being one of the top 3 boys' toy brands, which leads to much more product. I mean heck, look at what we got in 2 years of 25th Anniversary figures (especially where the figures are concerned), yes there were quite a few repaints, but in terms of volume they gave us what would have been about five or six years' worth of figures in just 2 years (Remember, in olden days of yore, you got one assortment of maybe 16-18 figures for the whole year). Toys may not get as much shelf-space as they used to, but there's still a lot of stuff being put out when you break it down. |

We could do everything right for Hasbro anyway and they still wouldn't try to fulfill our needs. We could bow down, kiss their feet, kiss their ass, buy their crap, buy their repaints, and what would we get in the next Q&A.... Not one damn thing we asked for! The response we would get would be "That will not be made in the future." While they also whisper.. "Try again dumbass!"
Since there's no hope, you may as well give up the hobby completely, right? You didn't like any of the 25th Anniversary or Modern Era figures (which would blow your whole little "never giving us what we want" argument out of the water)? Or are you just being ridiculously overdramatic (like many others here) and exaggerating the truth because you feel the need to spew pointless vitriol? |

There are a lot of good ideas that have been posted on this thread, and some genuine concerns/problems with the feasibility of getting a new Flagg. I can't say what another collector would do, all I can say is that if a new Flagg did come out, I would buy it. I have an original, and it's great. But if a new, retooled Flagg were available, I would be all over it.
That being said, the "build a Flagg" idea is interesting. Really, it's not a bad idea, but I just don't quite see how practical it would be. There are a LOT of pieces... and those flight deck pieces are large. They could do something like they did with the MASS device and have large sections of the Flagg packaged with 4-5 figure sets. That might work, but those would still be pretty expensive. About the Terror Drome, I would be in favor of a Terror Drome. I have an original and it's a great toy. An updated, retooled Terror Drome would be awesome. To be honest, I think we're more likely to get one of these. It's a little smaller, a little less expensive, and Cobra is WAY more popular today than it was in the 80's. Just look how many Tankers love Cobra. I'm going to buy the new PIT. It's not perfect; it's not what I had hoped it would be, but it's the new HQ, and I can use it sort of like a Mobile Command Center. However, I think every fan/collector should do what they need to do. $100 is tough right now for a lot of people, especially guys with families. I have every HQ Hasbro has ever made for the Joes, so I'll get this one and I'll use it and it'll be fine. But if a guy can't because of money or unavailability of space, or because he just doesn't like it, that's up to him. There's a lot about the RoC line that Hasbro is doing right; the line needs growth. It's great to think that kids are playing with retooled versions of the same characters I played with, but how many kids are really as excited about G.I. Joe as we were at their age? The world is a different place, and Hasbro is just trying to keep up and stay alive. I'm going to buy a lot of these movie toys to add to my collection. I'm glad we're getting stuff like new Eels and new Para-vipers. I'm glad were seeing Barrel Roll and some new vehicles. The entire line is not perfect, but no line up Hasbro has ever done has been completely perfect since 1990 or so. I don't think we'll ever see a new Flagg. It's too big, and too expensive to produce. I wish that weren't the case, and if they do ever make it, I'll buy it. I'm just not getting my hopes up. If the PIT does well, and Hasbro sees that there is still a market for large Joe play sets, then we might see a Terror Drome or something like it. But if Hasbro looses money on it's first large play set in years, then where is the incentive for them to invest further when the figures and smaller vehicles are doing fairly well? Just my opinion.

So why are you still here?

A few hundred, even a few thousand thousand people saying "We Want a a Flagg!" doesn't give Hasbro the money to design, develop, and produce it. It doesn't convince retailers to buy it to put in their stores, and it doesn't mean it'll sell well once it gets to shelves. Likewise, it's idiotic to think that Hasbro wouldn't be shifting to focus on the major motion picture that's coming out, and silly to assume that retailers would want to support two separate lines when they're already buying a ton of one (the movie line). People need to stop acting/thinking like Hasbro is the only link in this chain, and that there's no other factors on their decisions other than whining fans on message boards. |

And really, if we get a Flagg or not, I'll be OK. What I really want to know is: Where is 25th Low-Light?!!!

Can someone design a Flagg package in "Sigma Six" colors? It will not only make for an interesting point and statement. Yet also, maybe that will finally convince not all of Hasbro, just the "higher up" who might finally be convinced of a Flagg just by virtue of the "Sigma Six" neon packaging colors. Again, we did not ask for more Sigma Six. Not even kids clamored for more Sigma Six. Yet just by the looks of the Pit packaging and the colors, the premise still stands; there's something terribly amiss and eerie...

Is it really vitriol if it's truth? We won't get a new Flagg. We won't even get spit in a box called "Flagg." The truth is GI*Joe is not the seller it once was. And if we can't even get a new g***amn Skystriker, what makes you think a Flagg is even REMOTELY possible?
You want Flagg? Either buy off of eBay or build it yourself. A FLAGG is not remotely possible right now. Neither is a new Skystriker. But if the movie brings in thousands of new kids that are suddenly into this whole "G.I. Joe" thing, then the Skystriker becomes more possible. The Flagg too, even if it's still extremely unlikely, at least in anything resembling the original in scope. You don't have to use the FLAGG for the example in this post. It could be any larger vehicle or playset that fans have talked about wanting, including the Skystriker. Until the G.I. Joe brand GROWS to the point that it's justified, Hasbro (and more importantly the retailers) simply cannot and will not take the risk on these kinds of items (without a major multi-media tie-in as in the case of the Pit). For all the 25A's "success" it was still not successful enough to justify a new Skystriker. The only way that's going to happen is with new blood buying the line, and a larger fanbase of both pre-existing adult collectors and kids just starting to explore the world of G.I. Joe. Some people seem to think that's impossible because they personally don't like the movie and movie products. They seem to be unable to grasp even the possibility that the entire world won't share their opinion. I'm sure if we had an internet in 1982, we'd be reading a whole bunch of posts from people saying "This 3.75" crap will never sell. They should just be giving us more 12" G.I. Joe and Adventure Team stuff! We've been supporting them this long and now we're not good enough for them?? F- U HASBLOW! I'm not buying any of this stupid "Real American Hero" crap." Guess how that turned out? Last edited by Jmacq1; 05-20-2009 at 10:51 AM.. |

There's just so many links in the chain that are being skipped if we start thinking that new PIT leads to Flagg. I mean, if they tried to do justice to the Resolute Flagg, there's no telling how big it would be, or how much money it could cost.
