I've bought some vintage figures recently that came with knees/shoulders so tight i could barely move them, as a child i would have had to ask an adult for help. I assume this is not normal and the figures have been "fixed" a bit too enthusiastically somehow?

This could also come from improper storage temperatures. Most of my childhood collection was destroyed because they got way too hot and the metal rivets expanded causing the joints to shatter. This easily explains shoulders and elbows, there could be a similar shrinkage in the plastic. If they are just tight, it could be from being slightly too hot but not enough to wreck the plastic.

If I find a figure with really tight joints, tight to the point I'm scared they'll break if I move them, then I'll put a few drops of 303 aerospace protectant onto the joint, let it soak in and work the joint back and forth gently until it is moving freely. Found the 303 recommendation on another forum, it isn' oily or petroleum based.

I have recently opened a few of my carded Joes and they were pretty stiff. Maybe your guys were never loosened up after they were opened?

Just be careful loosening them up since the plastic generally gets brittle with age and depending on what type of environmental conditions it was stored in over the years, could be more or less prone to breaking. I've shattered a few knees and cracked many an elbow in the past (speaking of Joes of course).

In My experience you roll it around in your fingers a little bit to loosen it up and maybe bite the tip off of the end you hit if you..... what?
