Good luck on that. Its one of the most fragile parts and pretty hard to find. There are reproductions available, but even those are a bit pricey.

I have the shell of one that I got at kokomo toys years ago when they did a big vehicle shell sell. Got it for a buck.

After my traumatic experience with the gigantic USS Flagg in 1985, I passed on the Terror Drome, initially. I finally caved in and got it in early 1988, on "Clearance" at a Lionel Playworld. I can't remember the exact price, but it was a pretty deep discount. Since 1985, I had moved my GI Joe stuff to a larger room (basement), so I had more space.
I'm actually thinking of selling mine, since it doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. I think the Firebat is missing one of its belly guns and I seem to remember that the launch silo doesn't close all the way. I don't want to ship it, but if you're nearby and interested, lemme know.

Yes, and there's a real douche-canoe named "Fred Broca" who lives right next door, outside the main gate.
Naw. Just messing witcha'. Mountain time zone for me. I just try to maintain some anonymity on the Internets nowadays. In years past, I wanted everybody to know who/where I was... then somebody showed up at my work office one day.

LoL Ft Wadsworth shut down in 94. Unless the surrounding neighborhood goes by the same name? I avoid SI like the plague.

The 'Drome was my white whale for as long as I loved G.I. Joe.
Three years ago, it was time to pull the trigger. I found one for sale with a very nice pricetag. But, alas, it was local pickup only. I reached out to the seller, who happened to be a Joe collector, and told him of my near lifelong quest. He sympathized, expressed his wish to sell me the 'Drome, but reiterated the shipping was impossible. He wasn't willing to deconstruct it for fear of breaking it, and there was no budging on that. So I resolved to make the drive across thee states to get it. On one condition. I needed someone to ride with me. My wife would not. My best friend had too much going on. So I reached out to another friend of mine....and got a surprise response. It seemed that my friend had a friend who was actually traveling to the very state and very city I would be headed to. How wonderful. Would he pick up a huge toy for me and bring it back? 100%. So I made the arrangements. The pickup was made. Hours later, a complication arose. It seemed that, because this was in one of those handy states where you can buy your perfectly legal marijuana products at the store, my pickup man had a bright idea. That evening, I get a call telling me the score. Vape cartridges in the firebat, edibles in the interior of the base; if it wasn't in herb form, the dude managed to get it into the Terror Drome. Honestly, I didn't care. If he was bringing it to me, I was happy. But the guys tells me he wants to mail the thing to me - loaded down and such. This starts to bug me. Then he gives me another call wanting a few hundred dollars to ship the thing bc he's had a UPS person box it up without disassembling it and that's the shipping cost he was given. I threw my hands up, called the whole thing off. I never knew what happened to that Terror Drome. After all the trouble, my wife let me buy one on eBay. And I did. And I love it. |

Crazy man. My dad bought me my Terror Drome in '86 for $58.92. It was either a Christmas or 10th birthday present, I don't remember which (December birthday here). I DO remember that it was too big for him to hide so he just set the box in the bathroom where I stared at it every day for what seemed like an eternity, wishing I could open it. Why the bathroom, I don't know - there were other rooms he could have put it where I wouldn't have to see it every day. I still have that Terror Drome, complete, AND the box. I put out on display a few years ago and added LED lights and a lazy susan so it could be rotated easily. One of my favorite toys ever.
