Question for some of you more seasoned Terror Drome owners, do the two main guns "have" to be placed side by side so that they are basically facing the same direction?
I've taken my TD apart and am currently working on customizing it with a paint-wash and custom computer stickers from Cobrastickers. I got to looking at how the blue pieces fit together on the white plastic base ring, and it looks to me like you can pretty much set the guns in any configuration you want. Has anybody tried this? Do you know of any customs that have the guns opposite of each other? Thanks. Jason I wouldn’t bet my mortgage on this but I’m pretty sure the guns have to go in their proper spots. I can’t think of any custom I’ve ever seen where that wasn’t the case. I used the taken the gun tower based on and off as a kid (my restored TD is my actual childhood TD) and I recall never having an option to alter the configuration of the blue panels. I could be wrong I’m I don’t believe you can change it.

There are tabs and grooves that make it so you can't put them just anywhere... however if you were to remove the tabs and glue the blue pieces where ever you wanted, you could move the gun ramparts anywhere, I suppose.

Hoping to have my Terror Drome put back together this weekend. Gotta do some Dremel-customizing to one of the swinging gun doors to fix a broken tab on the side and a tab that holds the foot/stabilizer. I'll post pics when I'm done. Jason |

One of my doors is broken too, the knuckle part where the foot swings down. I gotta rack my brain to see how to fix it without it looking ghetto.

I'm guessing the designer had the idea that the two main cannons were the "front" of the Terror Drome, but if they would have put the two cannons directly opposite of each other, and the same for the swinging-door cannons it would have provided a better fire arch.
May try to customize that blank hallway into a make-shift medical bay. Still, the Terror Drome is probably one of the coolest playsets I've ever seen. I've referred to it as the Cobra Death Star plenty of times! Jason |

Since I'm giving mine a custom paint-wash, I should be able to cover any seams with paint. Jason |

Oh by the way, does anyone know what size tubing to use for the fuel hoses? I think the local train/hobby store sells different size flex tubing. Thanks again.

And hey if you throw some loose broken styrofoam and an old 1978 Trash Compactor monster into one of the bottom bays- bam, Desth Star. Lol And Jason, please feel free to IM me with any restoration questions- see my Terror Drome in the link below in my 1986 Joe Album. Note I only restore vintage vehicles to their original state- no custom work but I do do custom figures and modeling so feel free to hit me up with questions.

i brought mine to my house from my parents' two weeks ago; i haven't had time (or space yet) to set it up, but soon...i look forward to completing it since i bought it on return in 1989 and it was missing some of the lower gun ports and walls, but i think it found them in a junk box at a comic store.

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster.
At long last, I finally picked up a Terror Drome at the Kentuckiana GI Joe con this weekend. I never had one as a kid, so it was a priority for me once I decided to get back into Joes. It needs a SERIOUS cleaning, but is complete, so for $300 I figured it was a good deal. Now I have to figure out where I'm going to put the thing. So far the wife hasn't seemed to notice it sitting on a table in the basement. We'll see how long that lasts! At any rate, I need to clean it up, and am a bit nervous about disassembling it without breaking anything, but I've read some other threads here and watched some videos, so hopefully I can pull it off. Wish me luck! |
