I had purchased a H.A.V.O.C. at a garage sale a few years ago, but it didn't have any stickers on it. In fact I don't think the original owner ever applied the stickers because this thing looked almost new!
At the time no one offered replacement stickers for it. Every so often a set of original stickers would pop up somewhere online like ebay, but I always seemed to miss out on them. Eventually I decided to ask someone from Cobra Stickers if and when they would be offering a set. They said that they first needed an original set to make a scan of, but it would probably be awhile. Eventually they came through and now offer a nice set of them, but before they had them for sale I ended finding another replacement set by tfkingdom instead. After a long while of having my H.A.V.O.C. sit sticker less on my shelf I finally decided to place stickers on it after my G.I. Joe Club Cross Country figure arrived. After taking it apart and giving it a nice bath, it was all cleaned up to let Cross Country do what he does best... The only issue that I have is that I don't own the original blueprints and instructions so I had to go by the scans on YoJoe.com instead. It was a bit hard to make out the fine print, so I used their H.A.V.O.C. images as well for help. The main problem with this is that some people don't go by the instructions, and sometimes place some of the stickers wherever they think that they'll look best. In fact in some cases the instructions do not match the box art or the images on the back of the box. My biggest issue with this when it comes to the H.A.V.O.C. are the number "4" stickers and the "GUN SEAT ADJUST" stickers. If you go by the instructions you will end up with what I have done above, but if you go by the what's on the box then the "4" stickers should be placed right behind the gun barrel, and the "GUN SEAT ADJUST" stickers should be placed on the sides of the bottom of the seat. I've even seen some people place these stickers on the gun seats themselves. What do you all think about sticker placement? Do you go by the instructions, the box images, or do a custom placement of your own?

excellent place to sit and get picked off first by Cobra...I think they drew staws to see who would have to sit in the gun chair...

Yeah, it's always a toss up with the sticker applications. The instructions don't always match the blue prints and/or the box art. Most of the times I go with how they are on the blueprints, depends on my mood (meh). Great job on your HAVOC, looks minty

I always follow the instructions. Along the same lines, I only applied the decals to half of my vehicles as a kid.
I love the pic of Cross Country holding the decal sheet.

Thanks for all of your kind comments!
As far as the stickers go I followed the instructions, but for the two stickers that go under the orange guns on the back I decided to put them on sideways instead of straight so that they wouldn't be blocked by the guns. Once again my biggest issue was with the "4" & "GUN SEAT ADJUST" stickers. I wish I followed the box images instead of the instructions on those. At this point I'm just going to leave them instead of trying to remove them and re-stick them because I don't want to ruin them.

On mine I did the "4" and "Seat Adjust" decals the way you did.
With brand new vehicles, I try to go by the instructions as much as possible with help from the box when needed. But if I'm refurbishing something--as I did with my H.A.V.O.C.--I usually use Cobra Stickers decals, and they often have custom decals. Off the top of my head I added the custom bumper sticker about taking the boy out of the country, and I added some stars and some missile identification. |
