I started cleaning up and re-rubber banding my vintage Joes... I decided to take a sharpie and clean up some of the black on Major Bludd's helmet? Anyone else do touch ups with sharpie and how far is too far? Would a silver sharpie on a Hiss Driver's visor or Cobra Commander's visor work? also anyone know a good replacement screw site? I have a few "Franken Joes" that were made out of doubles Brazil Missions (yeah I realize now this was stupid, when I was 10 having 2 different colored Dialtones, Mainframes, Leathernecks, and Wetsuits was dumber) and I misplaced the screws 30 years ago...

in bright light the "black" from a sharpie does not match. it has a almost purple/metallic look to it. I did it to some joe and star wars figures in the late 90s. today I think the best thing to do is keep them "as is" 100% original or just repaint them completely (as a custom). I would hate to get a figure I think is all original and later realise it was "touched up" with some paint.

Yeah I did notice the minor difference, but I'm also not selling them. I'm putting them up in a display case I got where I'm alternating the old Joes and the new Joes... Also when I did color a few of the black parts, I sharpied the whole section so you can't see just the touchups and the whole thing looks uniform.. I just did my scrap iron who had a flesh colored helmet for the most part and it looks WAY better... maybe I'll take a few before and afters...

On cheap/common figures, I've always found a little black sharpie to be a good way to make a less-than-perfect figure displayable.
I wouldn't touch a valuable figure with one though.

The sharpie color will fade later. I find that it will also rub off if you rub it.

Also has anyone noticed a weird film forming on Zartan? maybe cause of the color change plastic? I haven't tried cleaning it with anything yet cause I didn't know if that was a "thing" or not...

Use some acrylic paint and a tiny brush. That's what I do. I do not touch up figures I plan on selling, but for my own shits n giggles I do.
