Okay just got done with sorting my whales. Here are the differences I have found between the ones I had. These are probably already all known but I felt like listing them just in case some people did not know.
Compartment Cover 3728 with or without post on tab, may have different shade of black Lower Chassis A 3726 maybe darker black Lower Chassis B 3793 Upper Chassis A 3725 maybe darker black Upper Chassis B 3792 has two support posts for the sled compartment and maybe lighter black Launch Door 3733 can be solid, vertical tabs, or horizontal tabs Deck A 3727 Deck B 3794 depth charge release connection posts are more open and underside has small differences Dashboard with model number 3730 with extra circle vent on top and model number 3795 without vent Liner with model numbers 3730 and 3795 Boarding Ramp with model number 3733 has two posts on it to hold liner and model number 3796 has one post to hold liner Cockpit Door with model number 3733 maybe lighter green with no indent on underside that looks like steps and model number 3796 maybe darker green with indent on underside that looks like steps Gear Box Assembly with model numbers 3733 and 3796 Propeller Shroud with (3735) and without model numbers Retainer has a left and a right version, look at which side the back wielded plate is on Left Engine Cover with model numbers 3733 and 3796 Right Engine Cover with model numbers 3733 and 3796 Sled with model numbers 3730 and 3795 I stopped going into color differences after the first couple of parts because my eyes were going all over the place. I hate being color blind haha. Let me know if you know any others or any more information on the stuff above. Thanks

You didn't list the white wheels or the other body changes. The list changes once you look at the Night Striker and a Hasbro Direct Whale. Now what does all that mean ? I love these types of threads.

I recently finished restoring a Whale I had purchased a few months ago. It doesn't have a notch on the sled door and has white wheels. Do you know if it was an original release or mail away version. Thanks for any info.

The W.H.A.L.E. has always been my favorite vehicle.
Did you know that in the US Navy, the vehicle driver is actually a pilot because the hovercraft is actually airborne? I just recently learned this little factoid. I always thought the hovercraft floated on some inflatable air cushion but in all actuality, the hovercraft actually does hover! Go figure! |
