Hello,
This evening I purchased a lot of GI Joe "prototypes" at an estate auction. I believe they are from the personal estate of Don Levine. (That's what the auctioneer said and they listed in the item description online.) I've attached some photos of the items as they were listed in the auction's preview web page. Any help you guys can offer in determining the value of these pieces would be great. Thanks! |

This board is mostly 3-3/4" collectors, those are 12" figures. Not to say you won't find anyone here with the knowledge on these, but you would have a better chance at a board the focuses on the 12" line. I'm not sure what the best site for 12" is.

I had some of those! Mine did not have painted heads though. I had a total of 6 and got $300 for the lot, so $50 a pop. Not too shabby!

Hmm... Maybe PM a member named airedevon here. She'd know, though I'm not sure how active she is these days.

They are only worth a total of 8 dollars. But I'll give you $9 just cause I'm nice!

If you're on Facebook, join a group called G.I. Joe Discussion. Bunch of folks in there would be able to help.

Listed them on eBay at $0.99 with no reserve. We'll see what happens! Good luck bidding if you're interested

Those appear to be the Masterpiece Edition reproductions that came out in 1996 along with Don Levine's book. In 1964 they didn't have twist ties holding the figures down. These look like they are probably first shots that were sent to Levine for approval.
Here's a link to an auction for one of these that has good pictures, and it looks like the same thing you have: Gi Joe Masterpiece Edition 12" Signed by Don Levine | eBay If you can prove that they are actually from Levine's collection, and there is some way to tell that they are first shots, they might be worth something. Otherwise, they are probably worth $20 each.

"The Trenches" is a great forum for 12" info.

Thank you very much for that info Xenos! I believe what you said is accurate, since some of the figures came in cardboard sleeves that were dated 1996 in hand-written marker.
The auction company that listed the items said they were from the estate of Don Levine. The name of the company that sold them is Crown Auctions NH LLC. If you are interested in the pieces, I would contact them as they may be able to confirm their origin. I have revised the eBay listing to reflect the information you provided. I'm being extra careful not to make any false claims regarding these pieces, so I really appreciate your help. |
