Mixing color for any plastic is a mother, I have 3 MOBATS that are the same year and are slightly different shades of OD green. However it is much easier to mix plastic resin color then it is to mix the liquid poly resin color, even with the fancy measuring equipment. I say alyosha did a pretty fair job of mixing OD and I doubt it will be that noticeable once assembled. I might also point out that those of us that do cast replacement parts probably keep a vintage toy from being trash or spare parts, and while we diligently try to either replicate as close as possible or in our eyes improve the pieces we will never make all of the people happy all of the time.

I think he intentionally does it to keep the repros from being passed off as legit.

Most of the stuff that I actually sell has nothing to do with toys at all, its mostly replacement interior parts for old cars. Not to say I dont make toys stuff I do just havent pulled the trigger on selling yet. I got a whole pile of stuff left over from last winter to finish up that ill possibly offer for sale and of course once I finish the F-15 I will attempt to make real molds after my brother in law finishes the custom pressure chamber I need for it.... all I can say is I hope it works out its scary enough Ive been collaborating with a couple of local mold makers for a mold that intricate and large. |

Plastic resin only come in black or white. You have to mix dye with the white for desired color. Prob impossible to match perfect

Nobody is criticizing the parts so no need to get defensive. I don't think anybody would notice that the color was off except when you have them side by side like that. I think people who buy custom cast parts but haven't done any casting themselves need to have realistic expectations about how the color is done and shouldn't expect a 100% match.

Well thats not entirely accurate. Resins have come a long ways as far as pigmentation, matter of fact all the resins that I color are for lack of a better term "color neutral" so that the dye you use in them is more vibrant and doesnt change as much as it would if you were using say white resin. Not really sure what specific resin Alyosha uses, however I recall its one of the longer heat activated (more durable) smooth-on products. But even when I use the color measure when I mix the exact same amount of the same color using the same measurements its always just a bit different. Could have something to do with the viscosity of the resin, or the balance of the different chemicals, but Im just guessing. What I was trying to say earlier is that plastic resin color is a lot more stable as its a solid bead of plastic and the poly resin stuff is a liquid and much harder to mix properly consistently. Id say if you got somewhere in the ballpark with the liquids your doing pretty darn good.

I didnt know he made the color different on purpose but its a good idea. And as I have said I havent actually handled and of his work personally but everything I have seen looks good, and hes got one heck of a decent satisfied customer base.
