The problem with sheet metal screws is that there isn't really a standard thread pitch the way there is with machine screws. You are just at the mercy of whatever the factory decided to produce, so it can be hard to match them exactly. The Joe screws being so small diameter doesn't help either; even a store with good loose fastener selection might not have many options in that range. If looking online I guess I would start by getting a good set of calipers and getting an exact measurement of everything. I used to work at an ACE Hardware that had a great fastener selection, but I never looked for Joe screws there. Hillman was our fastener supplier, you might try to get ahold of one of their catalogs and see if they have something that might work.
