After much apprehension, we recently purchased a lot of Joe vehicles that included a mostly complete Defiant as well as a crusader. We're currently in the process of a complete restoration. Wondering if there are any other resources aside from ebay to source parts? There's a ton of odds and ends we still need and as you all know, little pieces will nickel and dime you to death.
All that said, everything has been dismantled, cleaned and whatever is discolored is being repainted. So far, it all looks great. Still need some parts here and there like the 4 chairs in the booster and the 2 consoles; the gantry ladder and a few of the red cannons, all 4 silver cannons for the booster, the front landing gear for the shuttle, canopy glass for the booster, the air lock door, etc. I've ordered some decals from rattler repros as toyhax is just too expensive (over $150 for all the decals we need) I am open to quality 3d parts as some of these vintage parts are too delicate and very expensive. Any help or guidance that you all can provide is appreciated.

The Facebook "GI Joe ARAH Vintage Toy Line 1982 to 1994" group is a good place to look as well, though you still may get nickel-and-dimed to death. And don't ask about repro parts there or they'll drum you out of the place before you know what hit you.

I wouldn?t buy a WHALE because of the fragility of the fan system but jumped when I saw the printed stuff. I only go with Toy Hax and while Rattler is cheaper, their sheets are not precut. Toy Hax has superb customer service. They will do right but you. |

Thanks for the info. Honestly, I've avoided retrobrite as I think the de-yellowing via chemical might eventually cause issues- that and the size of these pieces makes it a little difficult to cover them completely (and finding a container large enough is also a chore. Actually, We've gone ahead and dismantled every last piece of the gantry, booster and shuttles. Everything received a deep clean and we're in the process of painting. I've even have a custom paint made for the booster- it looks like new! Now we are trying to source lots of little odds and ends and a few of the more delicate pieces that are always broken. We are no averse to 3d stuff as long as it looks good. None of this is for resale but for our display only. After checking out Toyhax decals, all the ones I needed totaled over $150. I ordered a couple from Rattler instead. I've used his stuff before and it's good quality. Gotta save some money somewhere (we were going to clean up and save the old decals which are in very nice condition but decided to save them for later and go with new.

Of course! We enjoy restorations. We've completed a few SW resto's and have been working on a few GI Joe ones recently. We happened on a Defiant lot with several other vehicles so we've embarked on a mission to restore what we can. We recently finished a custom x-19 and decided on the defiant and crusader as winter projects. So far, it's coming along nicely save for the expensive odds and ends. Other than that, it's a labor of love to restore these pieces...

Funny. I purchased a few lots for a TD and Defiant and had several extra vehicles in the lot. Unfortunately, I cannot part these out so I have to restore them, or customize them. I did my x-19 in flat black as a night force style cobra vehicle. The other vehicles are waiting on odds and ends... It is fun, but it is not cheap if yo go with OG parts.
