I did not see anywhere to introduce myself properly, so hello to all. I have a question about an item from seemingly eons ago... This jeep has to be from the early 1980s, but I cannot find information on it anywhere. I would love to find out more about it and what the item may be worth. It's pretty much in scale to a small child. Has anyone here seen one like it, and, if so, do you know what it is actually called and when it came out originally? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you both. I now know that it is called the 'VAMP toybox' and that it is incredibly rare, although I still have no idea what it actually goes for. Are either of you aware of a G.I. Joe appraisal service or such? I've had interest shown, but I do not want to sell the item unless I know what it is worth; I would be thrilled to find that I am sitting on a small fortune...

That is in VERY GOOD condition. It is VERY rare. Problem is, just because it is rare, doesn't mean it's worth a lot. It could sell anywhere from $50 all the way to $500(based completely on condition). But if you listed it at, let's say $500, it may NEVER sell. The size of it makes it a limited selling market. It would have to be sold locally and it may take time to sell it.
As for getting it appraised, there are several factors in an appraisal. The biggest is the 20% rule. That is actual selling value is USUALLY 20% of the appraised value. So if it gets appraised at $1000, you will probably realistically get $200 for the item. With this being the item it is, I would say you would get the 20% of the appraised value(whatever that may be). Another key factor is real world practicallity. It just doesn't have it in today's market(mainly because of its size) and that is a big factor in determining value. Everything now toywise is made of plastic because it can take the abuse. most kids have plastic toy bins or totes. The Vamp box won't hold up. It would have to go to a collector who has the space to display it, and that is a very limited market. If you're happy with making $50, then sell it for that(I may be interested in it). If you want more, list it on ebay with local pick-up only for $1000 OBO and see if you get any offers(may only be $200 at most). Then you might know what interest there truly is for it. I would list it close to Christmas as it will be a prime item to sell around the Holidays to a wife who wants to get something unique for their collector husband. You basically have a nice collector's piece that takes up a lot of space. It truly is worth what someone else is willing to pay. As long as you and the buyer are both happy with the price, then it is a good selling price.

I truly appreciate the replies, GI Joe Eternal and MaulEyes. All things considered, I can't see letting it go for simply $50, so I am leaning toward the offering-it-around-the-holidays idea.
