As I am still pretty green to fixing vintage G.I. Joe vehicles, I wondered if anyone has advice for removing the cannon hatch on the Asp (the computer module part broke off on mine, and I'd like to replace it). Anyone out there have experience with this? Is it difficult? Are there weak areas I should be aware of?
I did cursory Google / YouTube searches to no avail, so I thought I would check in here. Last time I posted, I was directed to a very helpful video tutorial on fixing the Hiss Tank's turret assembly, and wondered if anything like that exists for the Asp. Any suggestions / advice would be greatly appreciated! |

The computer screen piece is broken off, then you would just need to replace the canopy. Since it is already broke you won't have to worry about damage taking it off. It is held in by two pins on either side, with the canopy open, pull on one side until it pops out and then move it to where you can slide the other side out. When you put a new one on, place one side in and carefully pull on the other side until you can put the other peg in without breaking it off. To be safe, you can practice with the broken one until you are comfortable with attaching your replacement. Don't know of any videos, sorry.

That hatch cage is made from that slightly rubbery plastic that softens easily. If you are afraid it might break installing the new one, warm it up a bit with a hair dryer (!not a heat gun!) and it will get more flexible and much less prone to breaking. Just warm it a bit at a time, don't overheat it so much it deforms.

Thanks for the tips, guys. What I was referring to as the hatch is actually the canopy, as MaulEyes called it. I will try the suggestions and if it looks like I can safely remove it, will go ahead and replace it.
