Hey guys, I'm interested in picking up a MOC 1984 Mutt & Junkyard, but looking on ebay, I can't really determine what they are worth or what I should pay for one. This applies to all early 80s MOC figures. Unless, 400+ is typical for one...Seems high to me, but I'm not a huge MOC collector so I'm not very good with determining what should be paid for the early figures.

I don't do a ton of early MOC, but I have picked up a straight arm Rock & Roll and a straight arm Zap both in good shape for about $175 each.
While I know I got good deals on both of those, I can't imagine a Mutt being worth so much more to get to the $400 range. I only see a handful of figures in the entire line getting to $400 MOC - Snake Eyes V1 or 2, Storm Shadow, the Cobra Trooper/Officer from 82/83, Firefly, and maybe Scarlett. The only other pieces I see getting that much are AFAd stuff (which always brings artificially high prices) and exclusives (Ultimate Enemies, Target Hit & Run, Night Force, etc.) Most likely, what you're seeing are just optimistic sellers with high BINs.

A completed items search on Ebay turned up this one, that just sold for $202.50:
G.I. Joe Mutt and Junkyard GI JOE | eBay I would say that's more like what you should expect to pay for those second-tier early MOC figures....less for less popular guys.

I picked up mine a couple years ago for $100. Mine is in rougher shape than the one in the link though. You should be able to pick up one for $150-$225 ungraded in good condition, you just have to be patient.

Being patient and waiting for an item to come along seems to be the MO in this hobby. But I want instant gratification! haha

I saw a Dusty sell for $225 about a month ago and he is one of the higher value second tier figures. His popularity is odd, but he is my favorite, so it can't be that weird ! Duke would be a figure that could go for $400+ as well. I think many of the 82-85 figures could get upwards of $250-350 on nice card right now. Seems like there has been a huge jump in prices for vintage carded joes lately. You should still find Mutt for $200 or so like the others said.
