Is there a way of fixing the wind up motors inside the motorized back packs? I just received a Cobra Machine gun nest that was still sealed on card but the bubble was really yellow so I instantly thought "Open it", luckily the toy itself was still mint (No yellow at all) only problem is the motor sticks!

I tried to take apart a couple before(one to wind the string back in), but it didn't help. Sometimes they might have a spur or something that needs to work out. Wind it up and run it a couple times. It might work itself out. Otherwise it might be more wasted time than anything else.

Can you replace the motor completely? I guess it's one of those "Tomy timers" that you find in all sorts of wind up toys from old Zoids to swimming bath toys and crawling bug toys.
Assuming it is one of these, you just need to check and see how the crank attaches and make sure it's the same method for whatever you use to replace it. |

Considering that it's been sealed tight on a card since it was first made means surely that something is just seazed? I haven't opened one up but did they use grease on those motors? If I wind it up and sort of "Prod it", it starts then stops so It's trying to work but just not fully unwinding.

I've taken a few apart, and they alway seem to share a common problem.
There tends to be a shaft that is used to Wind the motor up.. it always seems that this shaft and the gear inside the motor it's attached to loose whatever friction they had, and now the shaft will just spin and not wind the motor. Anytime I've tried to take the motor apart, the Coil spring goes all "Splody" and I have no way to put it back together. |

I still think it has a "kink" in it. Wind it up all the way(be careful not to go to far, you'll hear a click) and run it a few times. Help it run a little(don't force it too hard) by turning it same direction while running(should get louder). Do that several times and maybe you can get it to run smoother. Again, it's a big maybe.

I've taken apart a fair few of the wind up bath toy type clockwork toys, and often you wind these up and they don't want to unwind until you flick the mechanism a few times (i.e. the flippers or whatever else it uses to move).
When you actually disassemble the toy and take the clockwork motor out it works just fine, so perhaps lubricating the crank mechanism outside of the clockwork motor would be an easy first step? |

Can you post a photo of the motor so we can see what it looks like and whether it would be replaceable with a "tomy timer"?
