ok I was looking over some of my old joes and remembered when i was a kid, that promptly made me wonder what Gi Joe toy (vehicle or figure) that you really wanted but when you got it you were really disappointed in as a kid?
for some reason mine was the earthquake bulldozer thing i think it was because it had 3 missile or morter shell tubes in the back and it came with three spring type missiles that if you dropped it and when it hit the bottom they would shoot and were suppose to hit the joes, just one problem they would always seem to hit the cockpit of the earthquake and seemed like it would cause more casualties for the joes but thats what you get with an early 90's vehicle i guess |

As a kid I was dissapointed in a lot of the later Joes in the originall ARAH run. Terrible coloring, poor accessories (neon colors) and such. IG Destro dissapointed because of his sword that was permanently in the sheath. Ninja Force, Star Brigade, Animal/mutant Joes... Quite dissapointing when your favorite toy starts to get all gimmicky...Lowlight as a neon dino hunter?

In the early years, I was really disappointed in the SHARC and Deep Six. He wasn't an interesting figure to play with, didn't quite fit in with the others, no real articulation and the idea of a flying submarine was just plain dumb.

Probably Golobulus... he couldn't stand up on his own. Irritated me.
Also anything Tiger Force and Python Patrol. |

I don't have a particular Joe to be disappointed in. However, it was more due to the use of neons and flourescents colors.

The giant G.I. Joe Stealth airplane. I remember the commercial made it seem so cool; I still remember a Cobra guy going something like, "We can't see it on radar!" LOL.
Anyway, when I get it... it's just so... not cool. LOL. I couldn't think of anyway to fit it in my little G.I. Joe scenarios so it just sat there... being not cool. LOL. |

neon colors all the way.
The reason I got into Joes were because they were military with a touch of sci-fi/fantasy. I loved the whole Cobra-La thing. But when it got too rediculous, I had to stop....and I even have most of the street fighter ones.

Vehicle: Overlord's Dictator. Not because the design was a little simplistic, but because it felt flimsy. 1990 was probably the last year i bought any of the vehicles.
Figure: 1992 Firefly. I quite liked most of the main line figures from 1991, and was hearing rumors that Firefly was in the 1992 range. So, my hopes were pretty high. When i saw the figure for the first time it was a major 'huh???' moment. Firefly was known for never being spotted, and for the figure having a fairly impressive level of detailing with some fairly well thought out accessories. This Firefly however was neon green with a matching rifle, and a giant spinning top weapon which looked pretty difficult to lug around. At that point the line pretty much ground to a halt for me. I did complete the first series of Ninja Force, but they were gifts from relatives. I had low expectations for the 1993 line.... The Generic accessories were the final nail in the coffin however, and i didn't buy a single thing from the 1993 or 1994 line. The Phantom is probably in my top five vehicles ever. I did think Golobulus would be difficult to pose... It never occurred to me however that Hasbro would cheap out and make a figure that couldn't really be posed at all. It irked me too. |
