Had this thought for a while about posting the unpleasant things we've found when buying a vintage toy.
I have, like many of you, bought a bunch of vintage Joe vehicles from other people. Sometimes its online stores, some times its garage sales or flea markets. Some times you get home and as your cleaning it a giant goddam spider jumps out at your face! For the longest time I would just clean them superficially, that is I did not take them appart. Most small vehicles dont even require it. Then one day Im cleaning a Bridge Layer I bought at a comic convention and as I flip it upside down a roach wing falls out from the drivers seat and on to the top of my table. I shaked it a bit and other bits fell out. I cracked it open and there must have been at least 6 dead roaches inside, all about shy of an inch in length. Thats not the worst. About a year ago I bought a lot of Havocs on Ebay. There was two complete ones and two shells with various parts. Most of the parts where contained in individual bags. one of the zip lock bags had the treads in it. One of the set of treds was covered in thick spider web on the inside. My first instinct was just to throw it all under the faucit and wash it out but the web was so thick. I just sat there looking at it for like 3 seconds. Then I noticed it moved, at first I wassnt sure but then it moved again and I just dropped it on the sink. Sure enough this friggin gold, yellow, black spider comes crawling out. It resembled a Banana spider but much smaller. It creeped me out. Thats not the worst either. Last summer my wife and I decided to take the kids to Seaworld for my daughters birthday. We stopped at a place on the way that had a couple of Joe vehicles. 1 was boxed, the other two where loose. Well when I got home I got to cleaning one out and wanted to paint it a different color (its the Shark 9000) but everytime I picked it up it had a rattling noise inside. Like plastic bits were broken and shaking around in there. It sounded like a damn maraca! Well when I finally cracked it open to paint it I see all these black pellets inside. Just like a handfull of black pellets and balls, some had greenish dots some brownish red. It was just full of it. I call my wife over and she confirmed my fears. "Thats mouse poop!" she said. Oh God, it was just all over. I guess at some point a small mouse made its home in there and just pooped everywhere. Oh and that one boxed item I bought, yeah that box was full of mice poop as well. So thats my worst vintage toy surprise stories. Anyone else had a bad one?

I might have posted this before in a similar thread, so if I'm repeating myself I apologize in advance.
In any case I once got a 1987 Cobra Wolf from a friend of mine and when I opened the missile launch panel there were a few condons stuffed in there. Lucky for me they were new and sealed instead of opened and used... eww that would have been really been nasty. When I questioned my friend about it he told me that when he was in high school he used to put them in there in order to hide them from his mom. Lets see someone beat this find... LOL!

i bought and old loose playmates tng shuttlecraft listed as 'clean-smoke free home' . When it arrived it smelled so bad of old cigarettes i had to wash it out- but a couple rounds under the water and brown chunks started falling out. i ended up taking it apart and a whole bunch of mouse poop fell right out of it. i took everything apart and soaked it in a sink full of bleach for a couple days... left some pretty choice feedback for the seller as well.

Ok you guys are freaking me out with the bugs and mouse poop.
I had cardboard box from an old 27 inch TV filled with vintage Joe vehicles sitting in my Grandfather's garage for years until I recently moved it into a storage unit. Now you guys have me worried about what the hell could have made its way inside it.

Dead mouse in a Warthog that had been stored in my garage.
Few years before that I cleaned out all my old vehicles and every single one had a ton of mouse turds in. Bottle of dettol spray and two days later, it was cleaned out.

Found some pretty funny coloured stains in a few things ive had off of e-bay.
Left me wondering if the guy was underage drinking before he had 'grown out of gi joe'. For me personally though when puking after spinning around too fast on the roundabout with my bottle of white lightening the first port of call for me was not the inside of the apc warthog I mean its off white and at best you get what? 4-6 figures?? Thats not even enough room for the sweetcorn chunks!! Think the kids can 'earn' their pocket money buy cleaning other G I joe vintage stuff from now on!
