im partial to the original arah o ring style
and have found that its obvious gi joe makers still have the molds and patents to make convention and special figures... i can understand whythey dont release full lines in that tyle anymore as would kill the collector market.. but i sure wish they would come out with a custom part store where u culd create what you want in style you like..like having universal heads would be nice..so u could make variants ! for a price of course.. |

Not trying to burst your bubble but...
Hasbro (the corporate entity) couldn't care less about the collector market. They don't make a dime off of second hand sales. The vast majority of the o-ring molds were purged a few years ago so they don't have them to make figures regardless of a collector market. (They could make *new* o-ring molds but that's a different topic for another day.) A custom store is not really feasible for a company as big as they are. The buying market just doesn't exist in sufficient numbers to make it even remotely cost effective. It's not something they could sell to retailers - who are Hasbro's actual customers, not collectors - so it's not even on their radar. |

You know, the club said on their con faq page that voltar's condor mold was no longer available, but if tankers can make cast copies why is that such a deal breaker for the club and hasbro? Seem like anything that exists can be copied (and some have done this with vintage guys right?). I don't understand why through the late 90's to today they just never could reproduce the quality that was there in the 80's and early 90's.

Sadly, the o-ring figures are pretty much a thing of the past. Hasbro has destroyed most if not all of the molds for them. And even though I don't like it, the truth is that there is more popularity in the current style of figures that there are in the o-rings. The good news that there is a ton of stuff from the vintage line. You will spend a lot of time and money trying to get it all. There is still plenty of o-ring figures out there to be sure. |

I think I saw one on YOJOE.COM with the rocky mold pics. Also the metal molds and process looks like the machines at the Miami Zoo that you put a dollar in and it pours hot melted plastic into two negative molds of a monkey or a lion or what ever then it drops the new HOT! mold out of the machine. Same process.
I tell you what. We need to get someone to scult heads and then find someone to make a real metal mold. That'd be dope
