Hi everyone. I finally got a chance to buy a Terrordrome to restore, but I've already run in to a few problems. First, the base cracked which I repaired some what. Now, I'm trying to take the top half shell apart and the cobra logos around the perimeter keep cracking. I've tried baby oil with no success, and decided to leave the rest on. I plan on sticking the top half in a peroxide bath this weekend. I'm going to update with pics before and after. I may need to buy a second, just to get one mint one.
Here are some Before Pics. Last edited by Havok; 06-26-2012 at 07:51 PM.. |

Ya mine is pretty brittle I often will replace broken parts on it just to have them break more as I am removing them. Be very delicate when swaping peices on it, best advice I can give ya.

Plastic needs to acclimate to gain its integrity back if its been stored in a dark dry area it will be brittle so you need to let it get back to reg. room temp. and it may be stronger
when its stored in a dry place for a while like a garage or attic the moisture from the plastic is zapped i have literally had a water moccasin's guns crumble in my hands due to were it was stored for 20 years

I never heard of brittle plastic getting back integrity with any sort of treatment. I'm skeptical if that would even work.

not saying it works but it does help some i have a friend who has his entire collection in a garage bad move......stuff is going to be super breakable its dry and hot but it can work cause i have a swampfire that was with my moccasin that had the issues and it seemed weak at the time so i left it untouched for 2 years and blammo its tough as nails again so i sorta have some proof

Well, I'm going to try to hydrate it for a while, and hope that helps. It's staying in cool climate control now. But, I'll have to be careful. I will have to update tomorrow with my before pics. So stay tuned. I have a firebat I'm restoring which I'll add to this thread. And a Havoc, stinger, and ASP I'm finishing which will have a separate thread. Thank you to anyone who has ideas for restoring the strength in my Terrordrome project, and for checking out this thread.

I just updated with pics. I have a total of 5 firebats now. One is my original from my long lost Terrordrome. And, I believe I have two mail away Firebats. Sadly I only have one mint AVAC pilot. I'll keep the pics coming. When, this is done I'll have one almost complete Terrordrome that will be restored that will be for sale if anyone is interested. New Pics added above!!
Well, it's taking me several months to clean, and de yellow the Terrordrome, but now I'm almost done. I just have to add my Cobra Stickers to it. Talk about brittle though. You never want to take this playset apart once it's together. I had to repair some broken parts. The turrets, and the supports for the turrets have been a nightmare for me. I will have one other Terrordrome I'm restoring that I'll be selling. And even a third, I think I'll sell for parts that will be missing a few things. Last edited by Havok; 06-26-2012 at 06:53 PM.. |
