I found somebody that has a vintage collection for sale. It's pretty big (72 vehicles and 115 figures). Although I have not seen it yet (and will not pull the trigger without viewing it) it sounds like it is in good shape and about 20items appear to be incomplete out of everything.
My question is do you have somekind of formula to determine what you would pay? I figure it includes a Terrordrome and a Flagg so that right there I could sell (if needed) for minimum $500 to $600. That would leave 70 vehicles and 115 figures. Would you offer a flat price per figure and per vehicle? Advice would be appreciated. Gerry |

I'd see if you can get it without the Flagg and Terrordrome (unless those are like excellent/mint/ and complete). Could probabley get it all for $300-$400 without those 2 items (again if the figures and other vehiucles are extremley good condition and complete). I find Flaggs and Terrodromes always thrown in in with a ton of other good stuff/crappy stuff and they try and get $1200-$1300 outta ya just cause they are there. If its all in ok/semi awful shape I wouldn't go over $280 just for the parts.

I like to buy at prices where even if I have to wholesale if off to another dealer friend I still double my money.
Don't offer a price, let them make the 1st offer. Based on your generic description $500 would be my max offer. |

I bought 3 collections from people by asking what they wanted and then telling them it really wasnt worth that much and then I said I could give them a third of what they were asking at the very most and they all took it. there arnt a lot of us out there so when someone offers you money cash in hand its hard to say no because it could be a while before anyone else wants to make an offer. And they have to store it and find a buyer. I then take what I want out of the collections Ive bought and sell the rest back on ebay and make my money back sometimes more.

you more than likely wont get $500 or $600 for the Flagg and Terrordrome unless they are both near mint and complete. It is also very hard to determine how complete the Flagg is until it is assembled.Just offering a little food for thought.

Purchasing a collection is tricky. Do not make an offer let them do that. Any offer you make should include what you are willing to pay, If the price is not worth it to you pass on the collection. A rule of thumb is to check condition and completeness.

If you don't know this person you can probably play a bit harder than if you know and like them.
You pay what it's worth to you. If they have a Flagg and Terrordrome in the midst of that number of other stuff - it's probably worth it to pay 500 to 600. If I was buying a collection like this to sell, I would use a formula of about $1-2 per fig and $5 to $20 per vehicle depending on what they are. A flagg and TD are pricey items and come at a higher price. Good advice is to let them name the price and if they go low, snag it, they go fair - make up your mind, they go high - cut it in half or third and see what they do. good luck! |

I only bought one collection off craigslist. Dude was asking $50. Huge box of stuff. I didn't even haggle. There was collection in little rock. a bunch of stuff I already have and the defiant. He wanted like $800. I need a defiant but not the excess bullshit, so I never bothered to call. I figured he wouldn't budge much since he was quoting ebay prices in the ad.
Good luck with whatever you do. don't buy anything you don't need unless you get it for a song. |
