I've recently started restoring vehicles. I take them completely apart, clean them inside and out, buff and polish the exterior to a natural shine and then replace the stickers. How do you as a collector feel about having restored vehicles in your collection? Would you be interested in purchasing restored vehicles? Do you only prefer to clean them up a bit and display them? Do you think reproduction stickers hurt the value of vintage vehicles? I've been thinking of maybe restoring some vehicles and perhaps selling them. Obviously they will be mint condition but do collectors prefer original over super mint? Sorry it's a ton of questions, just looking for opinions. Thanks guys!

Just out of curiosity, and to answer your question, how close to the original stickers are reproduction? Is it possible to distinguish between original and reproduction stickers upon close examination? If so I'd prefer the originals. As far as cleaning them, that doesn't diminish the value as long as you don't scratch it up or something.

I'd be cool with a restored vehicle. Saves me from having to do it myself. The only thing I would be concerned about is the quality of the work. Once I know the quality is good, then I would be saving the seller's info (e-mail, ebay name, etc) to get more from them. There is one or 2 vehicles I want to restore myself, but I just wouldn't have time to do them all.

Personally, I want what looks best. If that's restored and with repro stickers? Then that's what I want.
(disclaimer: I only buy select vintage vehicles, if they weren't rereleased lately.) |

I just started doing the same thing. I think I would rather have some nice and sharp reproduction stickers on my items than some faded peeling stickers. A couple of cleaning tricks that I have been using that work out great, is that after you take your vehicle apart, give it a bath in hot water and vinegar, it takes off allot of that impossible dust. After that, take a little dab of armor all and wipe it down, work great, especially on black. I just did a STUN that turned out amazing. It you have some really corroded and cloudy canopies, put some turtle wax on them, it doesn't take everything off, but it does give it a purdy shine. I really don't think cleaning and reproduction hurts the value, as long as everything is done right and looks good. I just dropped two hundred bucks on ebay for a bunch of crap that was covered in mildew and what looked like tree sap. After cleaning them up (using the before mentioned methods), some of these things look pretty darn sweet. I just need my stickers to get here from cobrastickers.com.

I wouldn't turn my nose up at a restored '67 or '68 Shelby Mustang so I sure as hell won't Joe vehicles either.

repro stickers is the only way to go.
ive restored a few items already and i have boxes full of arah projects to finish, so i wont be buying any restored vehicles from anyone. but, nothing is better than a beautifully restored vintage vehicle. i even accept reproduction parts for some of the tougher to find pieces. im not paying $100 for a lift ticket mic.

I wouldn't have any problems buying a restored vehicle, but if I can find an old one to fix up, and make it mint myself. I would prefer that. I think most of the fun for me is restoring old toys to mint condition.
