I?ve often wondered why the defiant can?t be cranked up so that it is fully vertical. Looking at the track, it does go further than what they allow the Gantry to be cranked up to. Please take a look at my attached photo and you can see that they added a small section of plastic that prevents it from being cranked up further. However, if you look at the design of it overall, I do believe it was originally meant to be fully vertical at 90?. My only thought is that maybe this had something to do with the cranking mechanism and they needed to make it so that it didn?t go all the way. We all know that that crank was problematic from the beginning but, I also wonder if there?s a way to modify this so I could get it fully vertical because I believe it?s gonna look best that way. Has anyone removed that small section of plastic that?s preventing it from going fully vertical?

I think the weight of the shuttle on top of the booster would have pulled it off the gantry if you cranked it up fully vertically. Hasbro probably realised this after they created the prototype and decided it would be cheaper to add that small section of plastic, rather than redo the track mould.

I was going to say the same thing it was top heavy to begin with and with it pointing straight up it would fall over ..

It seems the whole gantry is not fit for purpose which is why many collectors including me didn't bother with it. I just got the shuttle and Booster. But, I am left wondering especially in this modern age of 3D printing and Fan led initiatives, Has anyone developed a simple strong launch pad/vertical stand for the defiant and booster to be attached to and displayed?
