Around 5 years ago I scored a big moving sized box of Joes from what would have been a garage sale. Got a heads up on social media from a friend of a fiend and inquired about Joes. Made the deal a day before the sale happened. Bought the box for $50. The woman was retiring to the south and was cleaning out the attic before she moved. My wife said her kids were about my age. Lots of 83-86 stuff, including an almost complete Mission Brazil set. Only thing missing was Claymore. Only his head, right arm, and helmet were in the box, and as if mockingly were mint.
I just scored a near mint Claymore on eBay at a good price. There was some paint wear on the hair and eye brows, and the right elbow was cracked. He had his Uzi but not the helmet. It was perfect. He arrived the other day. His o ring was in really good shape, possibly swapped out a few years back. I swapped out the head and right arm for my nicer ones and boom, complete near mint Claymore 1986 Misson Brazil set will be near mint and complete. I never would have owned it other wise. I abhorred repaints as a kid and recall mocking the set when I was 11. Now, I have a bizarre fascination with repaints. I need a couple more items to complete the 86 figures set and I’ll hit back with a link the my Flickr album with pics once I get the last few accessories.

I bought some more shelving and cleaned up my collection area - the past 6 or so months of acquiring vehicles - they were all scattered about on the floor. Storing aircraft sucks - they are real space eaters and their is no economical way to store them - lots of wasted space. I don't have anymore room so it looks like I am out of the vehicle collecting game. I don't really have anything I want to get rid of so I am just going to be focusing on ARAH/Modern Era figures and accessories as well as doing some restores of vehicles I have acquired. I have not really taken inventory of my collection in some time - I feel proud of it - I have so many of the things I had as a kid or always wanted (even if it is a 25th anniv/modern era re-issue). The corner of my basement with all my figures and vehicles provides a nice escape from life when needed. |
