Well in my head, I just move everything up so weren’t in Nam but in Dessert Storm or even the Iraq war. This makes them young again. ;o)

Originally many of the Joes were Vietnam veterans, either explicitly or by reading between the lines on the filecards. For the timeframe ARAH started in that would have been quite likely for "seasoned" soldiers.
However even by the time ARAH had originally run its' course, it was pushing realism to have Vietnam veterans anywhere but the most senior ranks. In the early 2000s, Devil's Due made a half-hearted attempt to update the Vietnam references to just an "unnamed Southeast Asian Conflict" in an effort to keep the characters/story from being too dated. Conversely, G.I. Joe: Reloaded and later "Declassified" works tossed in references to the Balkans and Middle Eastern conflicts. If ARAH were restarting today, the Joes would probably all have served multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, etc... with the highest-ranking/most senior possibly having served in Gulf War 1, Somalia, etc... Anyway, Keel-Haul, Hawk, and General Flagg (Both, but especially I) would pretty much by necessity be among the oldest Joes. Mainframe would be older than average, and Duke, (probably) Stalker, Gung-Ho, Shipwreck, and Snake-Eyes would likely be "up there" for the enlisted bunch (possibly Torpedo as well). |

if you count him since he was an honorary Joe and if you count the sigma six cartoon then Hawk's son Scott is the youngest.

In issue #42 SE & Stalker visit the Viet-nam Memorial and look up the names of the soldiers they served with. They're at least in the mid 50's.

Joseph Colton would most likely be the oldest, followed by Keel-Haul or Austin and Hollingsworth. Then Hawk most likely next followed by Payload. Duke and Stalker and Gung-Ho would be next, then maybe Shipwreck and Mainframe. But any of the Vietnam Vet joes would be the oldest. You figure at a minimum, if they were 18 in 1973, they should all be at least 56 years old.
I tend to overlook the Vietnam era just to keep them younger. But there are many Joe vets. Sure a few are always listed as the conflict in SouthEast Asia, but really that only means one thing. Based on Filecards, and comics confirmed Vietnam Vets: Colton; Keel-Haul; Payload; Claymore; Wild-Bill; Duke; Stalker; Shipwreck; Snake-Eyes; Leatherneck; Mainframe. (Storm-Shadow) Probably Torpedo and Gung-Ho also based on rank. Pathfinder is not a Vietnam War vet. Youngest Joe would have to be Firewall based on the DDP series. Or Helix based on the figures. Of course Order would probably be the youngest as he must be under 10, but those are dog years.

I tend to a use a sliding time line similar to marvel comics (ala Spiderman), Many of the original Joe's served in SE Asia together, but I never specifically reference it as the Vietnam Conflict. Other Joe's (many new additions to my team via customs) served in the Middle East, but again I never placed any specificity on it.
In my own little world, Gen. Hawk, Grand Slam, Keel haul, Claymore, Major Altitude, Col. Courage, Hot Seat, and Major Storm are among the older Joe's. The younger Joe's are newer recruits based on original characters.
