I decided to restore the Defiant I have, due to the fact that when i purchased it 6 years ago it had quite a bit of yellowing. Mainly on the topside of the shuttle, front half of the booster. So my question is for the shuttle does peroxide work and if so what techniques are best? or should i lighlty sand it and paint it?

Hey osiris if you look at the threed MY FLAGG you will see my results with peroxide and let me tell you it works great. Besides loosing a few man cards by going in to multiple sally beauty supply stores to buy the peroxide and the price of about 13 bottles it was pretty easy. Hope this helps.

I bought a rubermade container and partially submerged the pieces in it and put clear plastice over the top and taped it on there so it would basicly cook in there. I left it out in the sun for 1 or to days, some of the small pieces cooked in a day the bigger ones took 2 but that was with 97 degree heat with it being cooler it might take longer. Give it a try and if it dosent work you can always paint it.

I'm currently restoring a Defiant. I just completed the shuttle. I'm still collecting a few parts for the crawler but I'm about to start on the booster. Anyways, I painted mine but I was going for a more custom restoration. I work in a bodyshop so I have access to any paint I want so that's another reason I went the painted route. I painted it a white pearl so it looks great in the sun. I have heard that the peroxide route works great but I personally have never tried it on a vehicle.

If I were you, I'd paint it black with white dots so you'd have space camo.

I painted my Defiant and I don't regret it at all. It looks brand new. I am still leery of the peroxide treatment. Obviously it works, but I am concerned about the long term effects of it. Before I decide to use it on anything significant, I personally would wait a few years to see if anyone comes back with reports of the plastic breaking down. I am not saying I know it will do that, I don' t know. But I think the possibility exists.

theres a variation on using straight peroxide using a home made gel known as retrobright
http://http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/ Ive used this succesfully on a yellowed flagg, on both the white plastics and grey. I was only using 12% solution and its a little more economical than trying to fill a container with enough straight peroxide to partially submerge flagg pieces Quote:
