Ok, this question popped up in this thread: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...brigade-3.html
And I think it's a really good question/discussion for it's own thread. So what do you do with your Defiant? Back when it came out Hasbro only made 1 Astronaut, Payload, to go with it. It doesn't really fit in with GI Joe at all. It's a huge playset with no figures to "play" with it. Now years later it's considered one of the holy grails of all the 80's toy lines & people will give an arm & a leg to get one. A couple years later they released the Crusader & repainted that same astronaut. Then years later they created Star Brigade but most people hate the stuff that came out near the end of the line. So if you don't like Star Brigade but love the Defiant please explain. I don't get it. What the hell do you do with your Defiant? Who pilots it? Jinx? Falcon? Big Lob? The shuttle alone has 3 seats so even if you have both versions of Payload you still need a 3rd figure to pilot it. When I got my Defiant I went nuts trying to get everything space related to go with it. I bought up Star Brigade & Lanard's S.T.A.R. Force & repainted tons of vintage vehicles in space colors. But I still see a lot of people crapping on Star Brigade but I never see anybody say anything bad about the Defiant. This has to be the most confusing thing in all of GI Joe collecting. And for those of you that had the Defiant back when it came out, what was it like with only 1 astronaut & no figures to go with it? Did you send Snake Eyes up into space? That's one of the main reasons why I didn't want it when I was little. As soon as I saw it I was like "It looks cool but WTF are you supposed to do with it? There's no figures to go with it." I just wish I could find a Crawler at a reasonable price so that mine will be complete so I can do something with mine. LOL
And Countdown was before Star Brigade and was an astronaut. Cobra had the Astro-Viper and Star Viper before Star Brigade for them to fight with. LOL

But still, that's not very much to go with that huge playset. And if people love the Defiant so much wouldn't they welcome the later Star Brigade figures? I don't understand why people love the Defiant but don't like any of the other space stuff. |

I think it was more of the psychedelic colors more than the theme.. I could be wrong.. but I didn't mind the blinding colors. The Star Brigade CC and Sci Fi are two of my favorite figures.

GI Joe wasn't big on Uniformity. They weren't army men. Why would you need a space suit to be on the Defiant....sure if you're doing an EVA from the payload bay. But not flying the thing, or manning a station in the Booster/Space Station or working on the Gantry. Your question is like asking "What did you do with the Flagg?" When it was released you only had Shipwreck...and the Flagg is a lot of Deck for one sailor to swab. GI Joe has a pretty loose dress code...Why would you think it's any Different just because they're in space? |

Another thing, Hasbro updated Shipwreck. They updated the Conquest. The new Skystriker is coming out soon. They'll probably do a Tomahawk or a Dragonfly or a Ghoststriker next. All the shit that goes with the Flagg. But Hasbro hasn't touched anything related to the space stuff. The closest they came was using the name "Star Viper" which wasn't even a real Star Viper. Just some half-assed thrown together FrankenJoe. So it looks like Hasbro hates the space stuff too. But we all love the Defiant. Go figure! |

Ok so we can go over some pre-1990 figures that would be appropriate. The Defiant came out in 1987, so there is a window of compatibility. None of which are actual space figures but spacey and non battle field looking none the less.
BF 2000 comes to mind already. Maybe Sky Patrol, would be there to help. Sci-Fi Back Stop Fast Draw Psyche out Light foot Not allot of figures. I have a dinky Crusader in my room and right now its being piloted by ACE and 2 Matt Trackers with my Radioactive Snake Eyes in the scout ship in the back. We were doing some explorations to Mars for Unobtainium.

My Defiant sits on a table fully erect with the gantry doors closed in the most stress less pose I can make it and thats where it sits. It's a beauty but fragile in some spots and I've seen what has happened to others so I'll just admire it that way.

Aw c'mon! You need to open that sucker up & get about 6 Armor Bots to go with it. And a few escort Starfighters. And have Carcass break into it & kill a few Joes. You know you want to!
