Now that I've lost my steam for the modern era figures and have packed my entire collection away, with nothing new on shelves in my area to buy in about 3 months, I've begun slowly falling back in love with the vintage line. Heading over to eBay, I begin looking for some of the items I want to begin adding to my vintage collection. OF COURSE, a W.H.A.L.E. and Tomahawk are at the very top of that list, but as far as figures go, I've begun developing this very strange, very odd, very inexplicable partiality towards and desire for the Sonic Fighters lines in all their gaudiness, big back-packiness, and bright colors.
Before heading over to The Bay, I would have assumed these were very undesirable red-headed step children type of figures... but they're almost ALL priced at $10 to begin an auction, and that's even for incomplete figures. I don't know how many people are buying them at high prices, but I have noticed that auctioneers are asking a lot for each of these items. They're all outpricing original versions of each of the characters (Rock & Roll, Dial Tone, Law, etc., etc.). What gives? I thought people didn't like the end of the 'Joe line and the bright colors and zany ideas? But it appears these are the hotter items.

I have no facts behind this but I think it may be that people have begun to complete their "classic" collection and are turning toward the later releases.

I agree. Vintage prices on the whole have have risen sharply since ROC was released. Finding loose Shadow ninjas at any price is near impossible as well.

Ive found this too. I buy ME if cheap but collect Vintage. The Sonic Viper is one of the hardest non NF, TF and mail aways to get. I thought this was due to Army building but Dodger, Law and Rock N Roll were hard to get at a reasonable price.
The only ones I seem to get loads of in bulk lots is Dial Tone and Road Pig. Were they limited editions due to the extra production costs, or were they a trial that didnt take off? Over here all the post 1990 stuff is over priced as GI Joe had died and most stores stopped stocking. |

I've been going to eBay to buy only the vintage vehicles and playsets that are compatible with the 25th and POC figures. Since I can't find any of the figs in my area and they really haven't made troop builders that I care for, I now have the money to focus on the compatible vintage vehicles. But once the 30th and Renegades lines come out that's all gonna change.
