Nothing lasts forever, I was wondering how long will it take before Joes just simply fall apart in their packages Or just crumble to dust completley. Obviously some people would have better conditions but would you have to seal Your MOC figures in a airtight sarcophagus just to preserve them? Im talking about for LOOOONG way from now, like kids kids. How will joes hold up to the test of time? I got this idea from thinking about some day all CDs will be usless and the data undreadable. So in 300 years does gi joe cease to exist as we know it?

I've got a few figures from the mid 60's that are still in pretty good shape. I can't really say though how long plastic from the 80's will last...it's still going strong!

Still I dont think they will last forever. Far beyond our lifetimes probably. Anyone familiar with major mat mason? I belive those figures dont have the greatest shelf life and may dissappear completly if not preserved like some sort of artifact of fossil.

This depends upon the plastic (or the polymer used) and the environment that it is exposed to. Polystyrene decomposes quickly when exposed to sun and weather. The same with polyvinyl acetates, other polyesters, and polyvinylchloride. On the other
hand, polyvinylfluoride is virtually indestructable. Even the same polymer is different in its decomposition depending upon how it is formed. |

I would imagine it would be measured in millienia, at least for the figures themselves. It depends on where they are preserved as well (which is why we can see all the Egyptian art, but not the Russian). I think the bubble would fall off the card first, then the rubber band would go ( that part actually happened to a MOC figure i left in my car) Probabbly the metal would rust next, finally much later would be the plastic
