Hi, does anyone know of an easy way to remove the rotor blades for a tomahawk without snapping the ends off? I now have 3 that need to be packed and i'm too scared to just pull them out!

Join the unpacked Tomahawk club!
I got mine when it came out, assembled it, played with it carefully so it's pristine, not even a hint of rotor droop and not a single scratch. Apart from when i moved it's been hanging from my ceiling for over 20 years! I asked this once a long time ago. Someone said if you push something long and thin like a butter knife just into the cap, lift slightly and pull they should come out. Never tried it, too scared!!!

I Use a small flat head screw driver to pry between the top and bottom halves of the rotor.
The best blade tab looks like a "U" with the rounded end plugged into the hub and small tabs holding it in where the " is. If you can spread the hub enough by torquing the screw driver one side of the "U" will pop in between the two halves and then let you move over and free the other side... Once you've gotten one blade out it's easy just to make your way around the hub. It's taken some practice to get it down, but I haven't broken a blade in a few years... I'll have to see if I can take some pics or video to show how to do it. |

Yeah, I tried prizing apart the 2 halves of the rotor "Hub" and you'd have to snap it before the blade just fell out! If I twist them they just snap through age, maybe 20 odd years ago they were made to be pulled about a bit! I need to know how that rotor hub assembly fits together, maybe it unclips??
The hub was joined at the factory and allows a little flexing but if you break it apart it will need to be glued back together. (It's three parts, hub top and bottom and a pin. The pin will fall into the copter so be careful if you do decide to pop that hub open. ) To get the blades out of the hub use a thin flat bladed screw driver to pry open the spot next to the blade. Slowly apply pressure to open a space slightly larger that the male end of the blade. Wiggle the blade side to side and slightly at an angle. Work on one side then the other. The male end sits in a groove inside the hub that matches the tip of the blade. With some patience you should be able to all your blades out without busting them. |

I had a Tomahawk in my company's inventory last year and to assemble/disassemble the blades all I did was simply twist the blade a tad and pull it out with a minor side-to-side wiggle. All of them went in and out without a hitch. Did this 3 or 4 times.
