I do not plan on selling it until I find out what it actually is. Hopefully my message to Hasbro gets answered.

This needs to be front-paged so it gets more views and comments. Someone has to know what this is, but the title is possibly too vague to get clicks. This is, without a doubt, awesome beyond belief.

JMPEEZ, I'm sorry to doubt you, but this is such a unique item, and the first time that so many long-time 'Joe fans have seen such an item, I can't imagine this was produced, licensed, and/or released by Hasbro at anytime. It really looks to me like a custom item that someone made. And it's bad as hell. Bad meaning good, of course. I would love to see more of these.

I've been collecting Joe (and especially vintage Joe) since 1989/1990 and I have never seen anything like this, and I like to consider myself one of those collectors who's "seen it all" as far as the ARAH line is concerned. So my absoulte best guess is that this is a custom piece.
It doesn't look like something Hasbro would've released, and Hasbro didn't tend to advertise characters that were no longer available for purchase in some capacity. So unless someone can come up with some other info this definitely has custom written all over it. Regardless, it's still very cool. |

If if was licensed by Hasbro, it would have to have the Hasbro copyright and the year. It's prob a custom piece.

If it's a custom piece then it's a professional custom piece. I would guess it's a licensed Hasbro piece made by a third party company... that a Spencer's or Sharper Image type store sold.
I believe the op even said he thought it might be from a store like that. |

As far as it being a custom piece, the only reason I do not think so is because of why I bought it for in the first place. I bought it on Ebay back in 1999 when I was in college. When I saw it I had remembered seeing it in a catalog and wanting it but I was in high school, no job, no money. So when it popped on Ebay I bought it. I had it on display for awhile, then moved and left it in storage for the last 7 or 8 years. Also, if it is a custom piece, it was done by a master of some sorts which is why I think it was manufactured. It would have had to be extremely expensive to make a one off I'd think. I'll try to take some more detailed pics tonight or maybe even a youtube video. Plus the lingering memory I have of seeing it in a catalog I can't shake! Oh, and thanks to the many flattering offers for it! Like I said previous, I am not against selling it to a collector once I get an idea of what I have. I would love to see it in another collectors collection that appreciates GI JOE as much as I do. It has been doing nothing for me in storage and would be better off with someone that would use it. But until I get some sort of idea, I'm going to hold onto it. I appreciate not getting flamed as a newbie around here! |
