When ever a figure breaks I just toss it. Unless i spent a lot of money on it then I keep it till i think of a way to fix it. So far I've tossed like 3 due to breaking, I think and kept 2. One of them I only kept because an accessory broke so I didn't care that much.

Glue gives off fumes also, however as the glue isn't touching the figures it probably is a lot better than varnish contact.

Def not! You would do better finding some "acid-free" archival paper boxes. I think they also make archival vellum (plastic) boxes but all these options cost $$$. As a painter and printmaker I learned all of this stuff in art school.

also, you could prolly buy acid-free paper and line a storage box with it but you would want to have a couple layers at least because the acids and other harmful chemicals with eventually seep through the paper.

Leading on from my experience of collecting WW2 stuff.
White cotton is indeed what is recomemded for storing daggers and bayonets, so that is better for your SS. I've just quickly checked over my complete figures, most look ok, however i bought a mint Blowtorch 6 months ago and he has a cracked elbow which definetly wasn't there before. This certainly does open a topic about displaying and storage. How many collections have we seen shown in plastic fishing tackle boxes or large storage tubs? Another WW2 collectors tip was never store you items in wooden drawers unless it is untreated maple. A lot of wood contains sap and never fully dries out, or something like that. Also if the wood is varnished, is a no no as that also causes a huge chemical reaction. How many collections are displayed on varnished shelves? It'll be interesting to hear from any AFA collectors, those sealed boxes must be full of chemical fumes rotting the enclosed figures. |

New sculpt era doesn't have this problem.

In my collection is seems to be limited to the 1987-1988 figures with rare exceptions and it does not matter if they are still sealed or not. Maybe a different plastic or rivet was used?

I'm not a hater or anything, but I think there will be a lot of people with a lot of disappointment in the next 10 years.

I store my figs in cases inside a separate case in my room. It seems some years are just more prone to breakage. |
