I think it depends on your end-point to collecting. If you say "I wanna own all the figures that Hasbro has released in the ME style EVER", then no, you wouldn't have a complete collection without the con figures. But if you say, " I want all of the ME figures released in regular waves that are supposed to hit mass retail", then you could consider it a complete collection without con figures. If you are like me and only collect certain characters, then you'd have a complete collection like I do right now!
Does the 11 year old kid who discovered Joe, who knows nothing about Hisstank.com, or the Club, or the Con, not have a complete collection when he's saved up his lawn mowing money to buy all the PoC figures?

When it comes to individual characters that I can't obtain elsewhere, I don't consider my collection complete without convention pieces. I will have the good fortune of attending my fifth convention this year, and I really don't feel like my collection is complete without this year's set, as it offers versions of figures I would not have otherwise. The same can be said for the 2009 offerings, the exclusives that represented foreign figures are an integral piece of my collection, and I don't feel that without them it would be complete.
With that said, I can't wait to see what else the club has in store for us this year as far as surprise 2-3 packs at convention time. They really did a great job on figures this year.

That's why I framed the question, when looking at someone else collection, not what your own collection means to you as far as complete. So if someone comes on the tank or on ebay and says "I'm selling a complete collection of modern figures." When looking at his collection, do you feel it warrants the tag 'complete' if he's selling or showcasing collection if it does't have con figures.
If we're talking about ebay - where people should know more than an 11 year old kid, and money is involved - I don't know. Pics should be shown. Questions should be asked. Buyer beware on ebay.

Unless you own every convention piece and every convention set then you are not a true collector and should get the hell off the "Tank.

Be careful answering "no", as there a lot of Con pieces many folks don't and won't be able to get - particularly the Canadian exclusives and the International figures. The Canadian figures are incredibly rare and not often for sale. The International are just expensive. But all of these are ME figures that were Convention exclusives, and I believe Hasbro approved.

Really depends on how you look at it. I guess it's up to each collectors perspective, but overall to me if you want a complete collection then yes you need the Con fig's.

If they were just repaints of made up stuff like Crimson Strike Team, I would say you don't need them to have a complete collection.
However, when you're talking about completing your Python Patrol collection, then you need to get that Brazil set to complete your Python Patrol & in doing so completing your ME collection. |
