The leaked G.I.http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ke-script.html has an exciting action scene; starring realistic LCAC hovercrafts as Killer W.H.A.L.E.s. Considering Hasbro's view (and the rising costs of plastic) it may boil down to 2 choices. If the LCAC was considered for a toy, which LCAC Killer W.H.A.L.E. would you prefer?
A) A small W.H.A.L.E. that is all plastic yet likely small like the "mini Night Raven." B) Big W.H.A.L.E. substantially larger with less plastic, laminate cardboard deck, and huge inflatable air cushion. Is there an big, all plastic option? I and probably many others would not buy an partly inflatable WHALE. Besides it almost seems like a quality inflatable action toy would cost more.
I would pay $60 for a re-tooled WHALE or the one in your pic if similiar size. If it cost more, I'd wait for a sale or clearance.

I'm guessing not. Trying to see things from Hasbro's view (rising costs of plastics) I'm thinking those maybe the only 2 options. Going big + all plastic will cost.
Aesthetically, the 2 options of WHALE will look similiar, but 1 WHALE can be substantially bigger than the other. The only additional difference is the "feel" of the cushion. If you prefer hard plastic for cushion; it must be small. If you don't mind inflatable rubber for cushion; it can maybe go subtantially big. Last edited by Tuskegee Joe; 03-06-2011 at 01:52 PM.. |

I voted less plastic in order to go for the gusto / go big!! My explaination (from the Joe2 Fake script thread) below...
Quote:
Bringing that on would be awesome. Many clamor for such realistic interpretations. Question is, how much can toy designers get away with how big she can be?
I saw a 7-foot inflatable "pool mattress" for $6 (see example below). At 7-ft it rolls-up to a size smaller than a G.I.Joe "Alpha vehicle" box! WHALE's big skirt can be a similiar, inflatable, affordable cushion. The deck, an economical laminate cardboard similiar to a board-game (e.g. Hungry Hippos). Remaining few plastic-parts atop cardboard deck overwhelmingly are repeat parts - 2 fans, 2 engines, 2 air outlets. Surely "duplicates" can save on molds. With fewer plastic parts, cardboard, and cushion (cut 7 ft $6 inflatable nearly half at $4) maybe designers can make a 4.5 x 2.5 foot realistic interpretation of a 1:18 scale WHALE. One thing that really sold me and my childhood friends buying lots of Joes, was the APC, seeing it filled with so much colors + figures. Ads of WHALEs filled with many figures + colors can create that magic in a kid's eyes. Like the script, I'd army-build 5 of them! Doubling them as storage for my figures + vehicles (stacks of LCACs on a shelf). I agree, that can make one heck of a huge statement of a vehicle! And, still use perhaps less hard-plastic than the first WHALE. Given there's a Navy Base on Rhode Island, LCACs are nearby, and can hopefully inspire designers at Hasbro to see what they can achieve... If we get a new one, it'll be a smaller version. Just like the Night Raven and the upcoming Skystriker.

OK, if I HAVE to choose from the above, I'd take Option A - all plastic.

I wanna hope that Hasbro drops the ball again and give us a kick ass shelf warming WHALE that is done in the same retarded style and ejacualting design that gave us the Night-Lite Raven.

If a big part-plastic / part-non-plastic WHALE sells, I'm guessing implications may rise in the feasiblity of a part-plastic / part-non-plastic FLAGG may be given a chance come G.I.Joe 3.

Either retool or don't bother. I think Hasbro should have realized this after the Night Raven fiasco. Anything else is NOT an option.
