Hey guys,
My wife and I are moving this month. Fortunately it is to our first house, unfortunately it means that I need to move my entire collection out of our rented townhouse. I moved into the townhouse without a collection 5 years ago (childhood collection is still at my parents) and I went completely crazy on the 25th Anniversary and Sideshow lines. Almost all of my collection is open and displayed on Ikea bookcases. I have close to 700 figures open, and I army built almost every vehicle.. 5 rattlers, 5 conquests, 6 fangs, 14 hisses...etc How do I move all this stuff without breaking or losing anything? I also should mention that I don't have a space to display everything yet, as I still want to finish the basement. So they may be stored for a few months. Thoughts? |

Ziploc bags for the figures. Use plastic Totes and wrap in bubble wrap for the vehicles. If you don't have totes, use cardboard boxes. Also put loose parts on the vehicles in ziploc bags and label everything!!

-pack it yourself and move it yourself! a fellow tanker and friend here did the opposite and lost his entire collection from kansas to arizona. the insurance barely covered a quarter of his loss.
-buy a bunch of zip-lock bags and packing tape from dollar general or big lots and while your there, you can get free boxes in their cardboard dumpsters. -do not underestimate the beauty of bubble wrap. |

I agree pack it yourself. No one else will be as respectful to your collection as you will be. Movers just don't care.

Buy thicker mil bags from Staple's website to pack your figs in. You typically have to buy a boatload but they are much more trustworthy than a thin ziploc.
When packing, organize it by wave or a something similar so that it will be easy for you to catalog when you get there. Rubbermaid or Sterilite (cheaper) will be your friend here. Make sure and tape the lids down. Move these yourself if possible, especially if part of your collection is MoC. Really what everyone else has said just be careful if you have to use movers to move your collection...

Pretty much what everyone else has said: sandwich bags, bubble wrap and storage totes. As it was sorta touched on by LOC, CATALOG EVERYTHING! Yeah, it'll be a pain in the ass, but you'll know what's where. When I moved (twice now), I made spread sheets using Excel and labeled each storage tote with a number (only used those; they're more sturdy than cardboard boxes). Each spread sheet had a corresponding number so taking "roll call" of my collection was super easy.
