I was wondering if sealed Joe items could be brought onto airplanes as "carry on luggage" in a shopping bag?
The reason I'm asking this is because my cousins are flying into NYC from out in LA and I was hoping that they could check out Ross for the canceled Target exclusives and bring them along for me if they found any. I remember reading a story about a child who had his GI Joe weapons taken away from him prior to boarding a plane. It seems as if security was taking the "no weapons" policy a little too seriously in that case. This was right after 9/11 so maybe they have eased up a bit on children's toys since then. Has anyone here boarded a plane with Joes lately. Did you have them in a shopping bag that you just carried onto the plane? Please let me know. I know that there wouldn't be a problem if they were to be placed inside of the luggage which was going into the cargo bay, but I didn't want to ask my cousins to save any space for that. They are Cali girls after all so I'm sure that their luggage will be filled up as it is.

I would just send them to wherever to avoid any possible hassle.

Were the weapons they took off the kid 3 3/4 scale or the role play type? Cause if they were 3 3/4 then that's just ridiculous.

I just wanted them to be able to bring them in the Ross plastic bags right onto the plane and hand them to me when i picked them up at the airport. The only thing I was worried about was when they went through the scanners if security wouldn't allow it because the contained "weapons". I remember back in the 80's when I was traveling to Florida as a kid. My brother and I packed uzi water guns in our luggage. This was back in the day before they had to have orange tips and be painted in weird neon colors. These things were all black. When the bags went through the scanners security freaked out. Now I know that they not metal, but the outlines of the guns still showed up. I mean you could make them out right away. We had to open up our bags to show them that they were fake. After that they let us on our way. I don't think that they would have been so kind if this took place today.

well... flying to and from Joecons for 6 years running:
according to FAA regulations the only thing that can't be brought onto a plane that has anything to do with Joes are mock guns or knives. SO the only thing that wouldnt fly is an airsoft gun or Megatron. sealed joes as carry on is fine.. but expect them to be hand inspected, scanned... or even opened. its much less of a hassle if they're in a bag and stowed, or just say screw it, and put it in your checked bag.

A spokesman for Los Angeles International Airport said: "We have instructions to confiscate anything that looks like a weapon or a replica.
"If GI Joe was carrying a replica then it had to be taken from him." Wow! That is so freaking absurd I don't even know where to start. |
