I'm actually a big Munitia fan, and considering its such an easy reuse of the Baroness mold I'm suprised Hasbro hasn't done a 25th version of her yet.

Short story long?
Munitia was the only "new" character from the 4th wave of DTC (Direct-to-Customer) Joes from 2006 that Hasbro canceled in the wake of developing and releasing the 25th Anniversary series. DTC began as a way for Hasbro to use the few molds it had developed for Robot Rebellion, the follow-up to Valor vs Venom, which was Sh**canned for the Sigma 6 relaunch. Hasbro, in a somewhat prescient move, beat Mattel to the punch by 3 years and took their fan-driven 3.75" line to Hasbrotoyshop.com, and sold the first 2 waves exclusively on their own web store. The turnout was such that by mid-2006, the first 2 waves were released at Toys R Us as an exclusive series, followed by the third wave which included mostly old molds and easy retools of existing VvV figures. The 4th wave was mostly the same. Once Hasbro put the axe into "DTC" (which, by that point was no longer a HTS exclusive), the Collector's Club paid the bill and had the wave produced exclusively for their online store. Because she's a new character, a female, and part of the stillborn HISS (Hierarchy of Infiltration, Stealth and Sabotage) faction/team/whatever, she was popular with the fans. She was also featured in the final story arc of the Devil's Due comic series, as part of Cobra Commander's Plague troops. The amount of face time and hype made her a highly sought-after figure. But between the high price of the Collector's club (who forced fans to buy her as part of a 3-pack with the least-wanted of their "exclusive" wave and the almost instantaneous disinterest in so-called "new sculpt" figures after the release of the 25th modern figure design, Munitia's day in the spotlight came and went as fast as Vypra's in the late 90s. She may be worth something in the future, but probably to customizers or oddity seekers. Like most of the 2002-2006 Joes, the disproportionate bodies and moderate articulation make them anachronistically old-fashioned, while too new to b "classic". |
