First of all, the 25th Anniversary GI Joe line was excellent, no doubt about it. But I must admit, when I see those new vintage Star Wars figures on the pegs I get jealous. Especially after seeing that TRU exclusive vintage At-At with retro box art.
So my question to you all is, am I the only one that would go absolutely crazy for a vintage GI Joe line? I'm talking about vintage card fronts and backs, vintage o-ring figures and vintage paint apps. Starting with the original 1982 wave. Is a vintage GI Joe line even possible? Does Hasbro still have all the original molds? Any figures they can't make due to legal reasons? Let me hear your 2 cents.

This would be awesome, but we'll never see o-rings again. Many molds are lost or broken.

well all the o-ring molds were destroyed.
but as for card art... if they did even just ONE figure on a vintage-art-styled card... maybe some sort of HTS exclusive... well hell yes. as long as it wasn't one of the icons.

They tried using the original molds in '97 and again in...2000, I believe. The 25th line basically WAS the "vintage" line. The 30th is coming up, maybe they'll have something similar ready then!

I'd rather have something new.
If I want a vintage figure, ebay is a click away. |

Well, even the Star Wars stuff are new figs with new tooling and articulation. So I agree that 25th was the vintage line.

We can always look forward to the 30th line. I, like Freddy, loved the 25th. It's because of it, like many collectors, that I got back into collecting joes. So I can't wait to see what they do for 30th.

At one time I remember thinking, why don't they sell g.i.joe? Then they released the o-rings of the late 90's and I remember thinking, why can't they make them like they did in the 80s? I mean, it seemed like they lost the ability to simply reproduce what had been done 20 years before. The waists especially seemed to not fit right with the torsos. When the star wars potf2 line ended and the episode 1 figures came out with better articulation, I remember thinking, why don't they make joes like that? Well, the 25th answered all my questions. I love it. I wouldn't mind seeing the vintage stuff, done right like it was back in the day. I can't understand why the molds would be destroyed. Surely, there was someone somewhere that would be willing to warehouse/maintain them. Seems like quite a shame.
