I started to think about this recently.
As most of us realize Joe in its current size had its biggest days in the mid to late 80's, faded early 90's, pretty much rock bottomed mid 90's, saw some lifesupport around the turn of 2000, made a comeback of sorts in the early 2000's and has seemingly stumbled for awhile. Trying to find its place at retail it regained some steam with 25th / Modern and fell on its face again with RoC. So...what will it take for Joe to re-dominate the action figure aisle? I hate to say it...but I think its gonna take what it once before took...Star Wars Toys...need to die. Again. |

well the peak time of Joe was 85-86. A big reason was the toon. The only problem now is kids spend most of there time on the net or playing video games instead of playing with toys. So even if a movie or a toon takes off, kids will be playing the video games of Joe instead of playing with the toys.

Renegades needs to match Clone Wars in popularity and turn out the figures at a fast and furious pace like Hasbro does for the Clone Wars. Don't ignore making female characters or villians again Hasbro has made almost all the female Jedi figures and villians male and female. If a kid wants them they can get them and they don't lose interest just because their favorite hasn't been made.
It wouldn't hurt if the next Joe movie was great and kids loved it. Mainly it is going to take getting kids back into Joes instead of it being mainly a collectors' only line. |

Dominating the aisle all depends on how much a company wants to spend to buy space in the aisle. The stuff that takes up all the room are movie lines that don't sell very well, but they remind people to buy tickets or DVDs. My Wal-mart'sSW section has shrunk a bit as well. There's no need for an aisle full of joes. It looks impressive, but it's bad business. Just keep a steady flow of product and stop filling revision cases with Snake-eyes.
