I don't ask for a lot around here. If anything at all. So if you would please take the time to read the following:
Like most of you here, GI JOE is a passion of mine and despite what one might think looking at my prototype collection... I do collect and LOVE finished product and buy it all the same. So please if you'd just bare with me and by all means participate in kind. Thank you. At any given time throughout Joecon, be it in the hotel rooms or on the street, in the dealer room or on the tour, whispered over panel speakers or spoken loudly enough for everyone to hear... the one thing you might have heard me proclaiming is that I firmly believe that the Pursuit of Cobra line is essential to the future of GI JOE as a whole. With the line scheduled to end half way through next year, and the cartoon and sequel lines already under a lot of expected scrutiny before we really have any idea what to actually expect... the ice is definitely more thinner than not post-POC. I'm by no means trying to sound like I've made up my mind on either future line since I've not seen either. What I'm saying is that the cartoon is obviously not something we are used to in its design, and regardless of how well it may or may not be written or executed, the fact remains that cartoon 'accurate' RENEGADES TOYS will probably not be too compatible with ME lines whereas cartoon 'accurate' RESOLUTE figures are. And the Rise of Cobra line with a few exceptions (Helix, Volcano Viper, etc) alienated some people because honestly, having an actor head sculpt... can drain the fantasy. Now I'll be just as fair to the 25th line (bless it's nostalgic heart): from what we've been told or gleaned elsewhere, it did not sell as hoped nor expected. Horribly ironic bad timing? Possibly. Economy? Of course. (Matt Tracker did not kill the 25th line). So what we have here is a line that should not have floundered = the 25th, a movie line which was always going to be iffy = ROC, and two future lines that boast similar vulnerabilities of each predecessor = Renegades and Rise of Cobra 2 (respectively). The Pursuit of Cobra is a prism. It takes in the classic, it considers it's film-based precursor, it invents ...pulls all of that inside and then radiates the amalgam into inspired and cohesive waves, out the other end. You don't have to necessarily like or enjoy the Pursuit of Cobra line to give it credit for it's ability to bring us something new (City Srike Firefly), bring us something that looks familiar but is also unlike anything we've ever seen before (Jungle Viper), and finally brings us something so revered and so classic that it's almost improbable to dislike every item in the line (Low-Light) ... to deny that it's at least capable and formidable for these very reasons, like the line or not, enjoy ME or not... that's just really hard to back up. If you enjoyed the 25th, ROC, Resolute, and anything in between... I think POC as a whole deserves more credit than I think any nay-sayers are giving it. I think it's easy to see a few waves of figures and say "no thanks." But don't you realize that if Pursuit of Cobra was the core line from here on out... that Hasbro has already shown us that they're willing to bring in ME characters that do not reflect the ROC fantasy... or that are very much updated versions of characters without treading too far one way or another (Dusty). Given the chance, this line could easily mimick the way the Resolute spin-offs of the 25th line existed. We could have Pursuit of Cobra: Paradigm or something where it leaned more towards simple 25th style updates than a futuristic theme. At the same time keeping the POC theme going as well as it's really not that far off from the classics (give or take). We keep trying to tell Hasbro that separate lines could co-exist on the shelves. But others don't think it would work and with just as many good reasons. So for me the answer is to use POC as the mule for both... the same way the 25th was acting for Resolute... and maybe over time Hasbro would be willing to change up the card art to reflect the spin-offs. I suppose my point is that Pursuit of Cobra seems like it could be an answer for everybody. The fans need to listen, Hasbro needs to listen, we all need to understand. And GI JOE is at the bottom of a totem pole. That's not where we belong. Cult status is one thing. Table scraps is another. So this is what I ask of all of you reading this. Come up with a list of figures you would like to see made on single card. I know this has been done before but please just bare with me as this will NOT be a discussion. Just a list. SINGLE CARDED only. Even if it's something that has been canceled (Volcano Viper) or something that exists usually with a vehicle that you'd like to troop build (Copperhead). If it's something you saw on the tour (Zarana) or even something from the film that never got made (Accelerator Breaker). Maybe a vehicle driver that needs to look more classic (Nitro vs Moto Viper). Feel free to elaborate on your decision like Zarana - but only like we saw on the tour OR Mainframe - updated like Low-Light but not going too far over. SINGLE CARD only mind you. like Star Wars gets with it's Cloud Car pilots and droids etc. TRY TO BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE but try also to keep it a list... if your reasons need to be expressed that is fine... but please again... less is more (I'll do my best with my examples). ALSO IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PARTICIPATE AND EVEN IF YOU ARE GOING TO PARTICIPATE... THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD. YOUR POST SHOULD ONLY REFLECT YOUR IDEAS FOR SINGLE CARDED FIGURES AND NOTHING ELSE. add them as they come to you. don't edit your post just create another post. start with what comes to mind. If Low-Light is any indication of Hasbro listening I don't think this thread is anything but a good place to start. If you want I'll print it and send it off to them myself. in fact I kind of wanted something like this to bring with me on the tour and it escaped my mind. again a list is fine... try to be more specific than descriptive. THANK YOU ALL FOR DOING THIS. I feel very strongly about Pursuit of Cobra's importance (anyone on the tour can vouch for me on that one). Like I said it's not about the current approach of a line doomed to end next year, it's about what the approach could be if it became mostly a single carded line to co-exist with a cartoon line and a second film line so that those of us that felt left out of ROC don't have to go through that again and those of us who loved ROC don't have to miss that energy either. ROC-style could easily be cleaned up as the new Battleforce (obviously hypothetical). I mean I was the first person that I know of to use the canceled Ripcord as Sky Patrol and now look... we've got Skydive. I'm not taking credit I'm just saying POC isn't just some follow up to the film line. It has heart. I hope all of you will participate... and be honest. By all means if someone lists something you want to see on single card... put it on your list. I hope that the more names that get repeated... the more evident it is that we all want that figure. Here's my list of things I'd like to appear in the POC line with ME updates or things that were canceled that I think would be awesome on a single card. Iron Klaw - he doesn't need to "fit" in a wave per say. the response to the prototype I posted and the ones we saw on the tour prove that we like him enough that we'll find a place for him in our universe. All you gotta do Hasbro is put him out. Let us worry about where he belongs. The proto ME style meets the one we saw on the tour would be awesome. Zarana - another tour piece. she's all over every discussion board. nuff said. the head MUST stay like it is. You already have our vote... don't make us get the torches. Updraft Freefall Cobra worker or tech (non-soldier) Steel Brigade Volcano Viper - (no matter how many most of us have, we will probably always buy more). easily the most unfortunate canceled vehicle driver but on a single card with that art... would be soooooooooo damn cool. yes he was a vehicle driver... BUT HE DIDN'T EVEN FIT IN THE VEHICLE. AND you can repaint him as Toxo-Viper. Two for one Hasbro!! Sci-Fi Night Creeper Leader - a POC style NCL would be amazing if John Warden put into it whatever he put into Jungle and Volcano Viper. I'll be adding more.

I read and will only concurr with what you have posted as a must see. They just need to use the ground basis of the look and deisgn of the current shown figures to continue the theme. As for the rest of any unmade figures, just like Low light...keep it simple, updated to the max but not so much that they can't be recognized as thier unique character.

Ripcord -- VINTAGE (1984) style -- perhaps done as a HALO
jumper sort of like the Para-Viper but in vintage colors; or just re-do "SPC Altitude" and put it on a single card Kwinn Snake Eyes Viet Nam Era (Classisfied)

Voltar, TARGAT, Annihilator, Undertow, Metal Head. We need more MARS representation. I think, based on the POC stuff we've seen, and the unbelievably detailed and myriad accessories, the Iron Grenadiers with their big, weird and wonderful accessories would be prime candidates for a POC update. They've already given us Annihilator's accessory set, so I hold out hope.

There were a few in this thread you could add to a master list if you are making one. Nothing major but a few possibilities to consider.
